What is the recent version of SL Viewer?

Is there any possibility of having a classified SL Viewer only for premium or VIP users through which they can enjoy extra privacy and client satisfaction?

Whether it would be an strategy to limit user access based on SL viewer?

Feel free to give your critical opinion.......

The current LL viewer is 1.23.5.136262 and there is also their new Snowglobe that is still in beta mode and the latest version of that is 1.1.3.2906.

Not sure what you mean by "enjoy extra privacy and client satisfaction", but in my view, LL does not seem to care about any client satisfaction, whether you are premium or not.

Seems kind of dumb for them to release the viewer code as open source and then restrict anyone that tries to log in using something created from that open source.

nope, the clnet is opensource so any thirth party viewer can have those privilages, even if it was not open source the login process can be monitored and replicated

there is no reliable way to recognice a viewer, any viewer can pretend to be another viewer so there is no way to limit access based on that.

Rule #1 of client/server design: You can never, ever, trust the client.

In other words, there's no practical way to enforce a particular viewer at the server end. And it seems highly unlikely that LL could implement viewer features that wouldn't quickly be reimplemented in the open source versions.

What specifically would you expect to be implemented in a special viewer?

Yes, but you have to sign a NDA to use it, so no one can tell you about it.

actually only the few ELITE have the SuperPremiumExcaliburAcc# viewers
but premiums don't..
they separate you from everyone putting you on a level that only the ELITE may use.

I still have no reason to go premium. I can own regions and do things just as a premium account can (minus support which I still do not need after almost 3 years) Plus taking away enjoyment with restrictions of basing it on account is bad class and will cause a media frenzy. Imaging if WoW did just this restricted to the uber elite and told all the normal users to packup or gtfo. could you imagine the media attention? so my honest thought on restrictions like this, is nope should never happen and should never be thought of.

It's certainly possible to have special features for premium users. We already have special features for premium users. The special features enjoyed by premium users include being able to buy mainland parcels from Linden Lab, receipt of a Linden dollar stipend, and access to customer support functions that non-premiums don't have.

These special features aren't made available only to premium users by using different viewers. The computers at the Linden Lab end of things determine which users get to use the premium only features.

I think one could write a viewer that would enable additional non-Linden Lab supported special features for Linden Lab premium only users. I say I think instead of stating it more strongly because I'm not sure for a fact that the viewer can ask the servers a straightforward "Is the currently logged in account a premium account?". The viewer can display some info about the current user's financial relationship with LL, it can show PIO or non-PIO status. Assuming that it is possible for the viewer to ask the LL backend if the current user is a premium account, then as an example, the Emerald viewer could be written in such a way that only premium users could use the breast bouncing feature. I don't know that there would be any reason for anyone to write such a viewer, but if the viewer can determine if a user is premium or not, then doing so doesn't violate any laws of physics. Since the source code is available, if such a viewer was produced, it would be possible for someone to rewrite the code to bypass this improbable code.

It would be possible for a non-Linden Lab entity to offer special features available only to users who'd registered with and paid the third party entity. As an example, one could offer a text to speech service available to only those who'd registered and paid the text to speech provider. The text to speech provider would produce a viewer that could send and receive the data needed to handle the text to speech requests. Only those registered with the text to speech provider would receive the needed responses from the text to speech provider's back end. Such a third party service provider could have two levels of user access, a free level and a paid "premium" level. Those without the proper viewer couldn't access the third party provided features at all because their viewer couldn't handle it; for those with the proper viewer there would be two levels of service available, a "third party basic" level and a "third party premium" level. This is similar to how the Emerald viewer offers features for use only by groups of users who are all using the Emerald viewer, except that the Emerald only features are available to all Emerald viewers instead of having "basic Emerald users" and "premium Emerald users".

Well, only sort of -- the 1.2 is considered the developer version that you can only get via the wiki page, whereas 1.1.3 is the latest beta version from the regular SL download page.
