Yes, I'm back to my dozen question roll, lol.
Ok, so, I've been looking around for ways to set up Music Streams without me having to be there to edit Land Information for our DJs.
The Land already has a jukebox URL, and we have a couple DJs as well.
Sooo.. I'm thinking ShoutCast is the best one for all this, without running the risk of a passerby coming in and changing the Stream. As it looks like it requires some sort of log-in from the DJ in order to switch.
I want to know a few things before I buy though, just in case it isn't practical. I've read around a bit but I like to be sure =x
SO! My questions:
~ I'm assuming ShoutCast gives some sort of URL to plug into Land Info? Or does it run by distance, and not totally mess up with the lands music? ~ Is there a 'better' version of it? I'm looking at the 36Prim SHX ShoutCast Reciever Club - LP Version, 995L. Really not wanting to spend much more than that. ~ Also.. Other than renting a stream, how else do DJs become 'compatible'? A DJ that has their own stream, can just download the Program and set it up, right? Lol. ~ And is there a way to get a 'Default' DJ, for when the events DJ has logged off it?
I lack sound on my computer so working on something that requires sound is totally nerve racking. I'll be basically working in the dark on this one.
Pardon if I've missed any of this information from the ShoutCast website.

I rent a stream once in a great while from Jabba Gruppman http://slurl.com/secondlife/Annuna%20Prime/67/128/26When I do, I get the information to put into my shoutcast player, the URL and my password for that temporary stream. the same URL and port number gets plugged into my land. I dont know if that's much help to you but maybe Jabba can provide other information about the process.

From: someone ~ I'm assuming ShoutCast gives some sort of URL to plug into Land Info? Or does it run by distance, and not totally mess up with the lands music? Exactly what are you wanting Shoutcast to do for you? Shoutcast is server software that runs on a webserver through which people can stream music from their PC to listeners. DJs rent a Shoutcast stream on a server. When they do this, they are given a URL to their server along with a port address to plug in the parcel settings From: someone ~ Is there a 'better' version of it? I'm looking at the 36Prim SHX ShoutCast Reciever Club - LP Version, 995L. Really not wanting to spend much more than that. This product you mention is just a fancy radio that switches the Media Music parcel settings in About Land for you and others you specify has having that ability. They call it Shoutcast because it's designed to work with a Shoutcast Stream on a server although they do mention it is also compatible with Icecast (another music stream server application). It also has other functions such as showing advertisements and/or current song playing information. From: someone ~ Also.. Other than renting a stream, how else do DJs become 'compatible'? A DJ that has their own stream, can just download the Program and set it up, right? Lol. Very few people have a system at home on which they can run a Shoutcast server.. it takes someone with a bit of technical knowledge... but more importantly a normal residential internet connection will not support that many users.... Music does not stream from SecondLife. The media settings in the parcel only tells your listeners to what server their PC should connect in order to hear the music. From: someone ~ And is there a way to get a 'Default' DJ, for when the events DJ has logged off it? There are many radios available in SecondLife with security options to give others the ability to change your Media Parcel Settings if that is all you are wanting. And most come with Shoutcast Radio Stations already setup in them so it's merely a question of changing the station.

Goodness. Now I'm even more confused.
What I want is fairly cut and dry:
Something DJs can log into with a code that will switch on their URL And when they log off, it reverts to a default URL that I'll supply.
Be cool if it showed current DJ and song info but wouldn't kill me if it didn't. I was referred to ShoutCast by an employee, but thought it wise to get to know the product first and be sure it's the best option for us.

gah I am not logged in and can't log in at the moment, downloading a huge file and trying to put all my bandwidth towards that
but I have the exact thing you need, just can not remember who makes it
basically it is a stream changer, that you add people to the notecard that is inside it that allows them to change it
then on another notecard you list the radio streams/stations (which would be the streams that the DJ's would give you the info for, and whatever default radio stream you wish to have play)
(I am guessing you are hiring DJ's who have their own stream)
so anyway, in this case, when a DJ is ready to stream, they click the object, it gives them a menu of choices, they pick their stream and away they go.. when they are done, they click it again and choose the default radio stream you have put in there.
(when I am in world I can get the name of the object and explain better if you want) this is how I did it for my club and it worked like a charm
I am sorry I can not recall off the top of my head the name of the item
(I am thinking it was called stream something, or something stream
OH and it also shows what song is playing
edited,,, I logged in real quick to find out, drives me nuts when I can not think of the name of something
it is StreamRadio by Moonshine Herbst

strange that it brings up no person for you, as it gave me his profile when I checked the creator so I just copied and pasted it
unless for some strange reason he has hidden his profile (I will check when I am in world tomorrow)

Hrm. Well, I found a StreamRadio that someone else owns - Through their Radio, I can see his Profile but he must have closed up shop. It still doesn't let me TP there.
Oh well =x Thanks for trying! Lol.

If you just need a basic URL manager (radio) with an access list try here: http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=LibraryRadioStationDoes what you want (assuming you trust your DJs to change the stream back to your default when they leave), is free and easily modified.

Alright what you need to run a club radio situation is...
A DJ with a music streaming program like SAM Broadcaster or WinAmp with the appropriate plug ins.
You or they need a "Stream", typically ShoutCast and rented from a providers server such as Muse Cast or 2222 Shoutcast.
A radio device that has a security option be it only allowing an employees group, or selected individuals to access it. This changes the music media setting in the land like any other radio device.
The SHX boards are fancy, and work well, I use it in my club. They do take a little bit to set up nice, but for presentation well worth is if you are savvy enough. I used to use an IRadio, this has a hover text display for the "Station" and Track being played and can be set to only allow a set list of people to operate it, such as your DJs and Hosts. Both will need some knowladge in editing note cards to set up, the IRadio however you will only need to edit the note card for the user list and the "Station" Presets, so it is simpler.
Either way the DJ will need to switch the device to an active radio station when they are done. Unfortunatly I have not yet come across one that will Default to a station when a DJ stops streaming, this would have to be done manually by the DJ or other authorized person.

How can we do it? Thanks for anyones help This would be practically impossible. The ONLY ay i could see it working is one streaming on one stream to the others speakers and the other both 'voicing' the first's stream over the top of the second stream to combine them both onto one stream. However I suspect this would be very very messy. Pratically a stream only allows one user to use it at any one time. If you wanted to perform one after the other this could of course be done by sharing the stream info
