I downloaded the .tar file - what do I do with it? Do I unzip it over the old installation? There's no EXE in there ...

No.  I just saw there as an update, went to download it, and got a .tar file. I suspected it was a *nix update, but wasn't certain.

If you're looking for a .exe, then a tarfile is probably exactly what you don't want  . Make sure you pick the 'Windows' link for whatever version of the client/viewer you're looking for (I'm assuming you're looking for a binary/installer, and not source code). Good luck!
