I hardly ever get to use my ground sits...because you have to actually be on GROUND to use them. Floors, carpets, patios, porches, roads, platforms...all sorts of large flat prim surfaces can't be sat upon.
I'd put in a JIRA for this, but thought I'd ask here first, just to see if you all thought it was possible...
Could LL add a flag to prims to allow ground sit on them? So, I could designate the prims in my floor, for example, as a "ground" surface?

I like the idea, Lindy- let us know when you have that JIRA. Aside- what IS JIRA anyway? What does it stand for?

What does it stand for? http://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=192544"Like all good names in the software industry, it started as an in-house code name. Our experience with Bugzilla was less than pleasant, and the developers in the office started calling it by the Japanese name for Godzilla, Gojira (the original black-and-white Japanese Godzilla films are also office favourites). As we developed our own bug tracker, and then it became an issue tracker, the name stuck, but the Go got dropped - hence JIRA! Further investigation into the name has revealed that Gorira is Japanese for "gorilla", whilst Kujira is Japanese for "whale". So Gojira is roughly translated to mean "gorilla the size of a whale"! For those who care - it sounds best if you yell it loudly, as though charging into battle. C'mon - try it!"

From: Amaranthim Talon Aside- what IS JIRA anyway? What does it stand for? "JIRA is a bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management application" that LL uses to track bugs. There is a public instance that we can participate in, and an internal one that the engineers use. It is an extremely popular, award-winning, and inexpensive package developed by Atlassian Corp: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/It is, however, designed for use by technical people, and thus can be a little convoluted for non-technical types to use. However, that problem may be outweighed by the fact that LL employees only have one tool to learn, and porting information from one to the other is easy. p.s. Although Atlassian does have an acronym for JIRA, I prefer the widely circulated story that it is named JIRA because it was created as an alternative to the hugely popular open source package BUGZILLA, and the engineers working on it made up the fake Japanese monster name GOJIRA while working on it. .

That's a nice idea, Lindal. (I've no idea of its technical feasibility, but it would be useful.) I love my ground sits and I do use them - but I have to use them "manually," by opening them and clicking "play in world" - which of course means I'm not really sitting. It would be nice to be able to put them in my AO and really be seated when using them.

I haven't had problems sitting on the ground of builds (not that I do it often). Maybe it has to do with builds in the sky, or mainland/island? I'll have to test this more, but just last night, I was able to groundsit outside of a store, on a 'wooden platform'.

I ground sit all the time -- and I also tend to put in hidden poses in some prims knowing a ground sit would not work.

And I've seen my friends sit in places where all I get is "No place to sit here" messages. What...is my butt too big or something?

What...is my butt too big or something? Lindal your butt is.... nevermind.. (it isn't too big) You put in a JIRA and I'll vote for it. I have the same problem and didn't understand why my "ground sits" don't work. "CX"

What are Isabeau and Mari doing that's different from the rest of us? When you say that you can "ground sit" on a prim, what is it that happens? You're able to sit on a regular unscripted prim, and yet your avatar plays the *ground sit* animation? I mean... how?? As for the "no room to sit" problem, I have gradually gotten more adept at sitting on unscripted prims (go to a lot of Linden meetings and you'll be forced to learn it, too: they don't seem to believe in llSitTarget). Walk up close to the spot you want to sit and zoom your cam down so that the surface you want to sit on fills more than half the screen. Sit, paying attention to which surface you right-click to get the pie-menu for Sit. When it says you can't sit there, try again, pulling the pie-menu from a different surface of the prim. Usually you can eventually find a "sweet spot" where it will let you sit. More exotic prims (e.g., carved-up rings or tubes) tend to be more sit-resistant.

You're able to sit on a regular unscripted prim, and yet your avatar plays the *ground sit* animation? I mean... how?? I usually just right click on the ground and choose sit from the pie menu. I'm not always standing literally on the ground, as in yesterday, I was on a 'wooden terrace' made of prims. When I clicked on (random place) the ground, the terrace outline lit up with yellow lines before I clicked 'sit' in the pie menu, so I'm assuming it was made of prims... I wasn't wearing an AO yesterday, so the sitting anim was the basic legs crossed one. Actually, I was waring an AO, it was included with my new Spider Monkey avatar ( ). In any case, I was sitting legs crossed.
