What are the advantages of owning/renting on a linden road or protected waterfront? I hear location location location all the time and am considering a piece of dirt on a linden protected road near a nice info hub.. What exactly do these roads bring as a benefit to my dinner table?

I've also rented a nice beach home on linden oceanfront, which I absolutely love! Most islands I've visited for rent or purchase have a nice piece of ocean with an invisible wall that keeps my feet dry.. I love that I can walk into the water, take my boat out, etc..

I'm just confused on the perks of buying this land.. resale should always be good, I'm assuming?

Honestly I see no special perks..waterfront I can understand a little, but change your draw distance and you're always pretty close to that.

I own land far away from water and roads, and see no ill effect because of it.
ETA:: If you use cars and such a lot, roads can be nice to have though, same with boats and water.

Protected waterfronts means having an ocean view, which is popular in any world. Roads, while not quite what they are IRL, could be good for "foot traffic" and the like.

the only problem i see with owning near linden properties is that ad farms typically seem to spring up around them. even tho ad farms are being watched, they still exist, and grow.

You can't be completely blocked in because the Linden land will never have ban lines or security orbs and no one will build on it, other than the already established Linden built road.

The only problem is that I've seen many linden owned properties that are littered with trash. In theory, they should remain clean and such (At least roads and water), but too often I find they are enabled to build for some reason.

My home adjoins a future Linden highway, as yet unmade. I see the advantage that you can't be blocked in on 4 sides and you have a frontage and backyard. I ended up where I am almost by chance. Originally I bought land almost next to the highway without realising it, and I gradually bought and sold bits until I have what I have now.

As for waterfront, there's always the danger that somenone might build a big pink blockhouse on stilts just offshore unless your waterfront borders Linden land!

All the Linden Land I have come across has auto-return set on - so I think you could report it if you see Linden Land being dumped on, or used as an unofficial sand box area.

I see.. so my roadside tiny piece of dirt can always be visible to whatever foot traffic comes along.. It comes at a high price, and being my first land deal I want to sit and ponder it for a while first..

After doing numbers I realized it's better to just buy some land at this point.. I rent 6 shops and 2 homes, and for that price I could handle the premium membership and small tier, and have the investment of land rather than renting. The big kicker is having control over the TP landing and Media..

When I see it I do report it, and it is admittedly rare compared to how much clean I've seen. But stumbling across a 'Linden Protected Highway' plot littered with things is still not a good experience, and I've had it many times.

Both of my places are on Linden roads, I love the fact that they cannot be blocked, I do not have huge lots and do not have any ad's in front of my plots so its not bad, you can also build out to the roads if you dont streach it to far without getting things returned and that gives a little more Visual Appeal.

All of my parcels have Linden sims on one or two boundaries.
Only two do not have a boundary on a complete Linden sim. One has a Linden waterway on one boundary and a Linden made road and bridge on the other. The second has a Linden made road on a boundary.

It gives a fantastic sense of freedom to have a whole empty water sim on a boundary.
Even where a parcel only has a 16m-wide strip of canal or road on a boundary, it has breathing space. No crowding in by neighbours.
The roadside parcels give me a guaranteed place to rezz road vehicles and drive on actual roads. This can be a blast.

People wandering Linden roads and seas tend to be open, approachable and interesting in my experience.
Curiosity is a big turn on :)

The extra purchase cost is just a once-off. It's well worth the equivalent of a RL meal or a great night out (depending on the parcel size) The ongoing tier rate per metre is the same for all Mainland.

For almost 3 years I have enjoyed the luxury of having Linden Ocean on one side. And Protected No Build Linden land on another.
Best investment in SL I have ever made!

Personally I would say that buying land next to Linden ocean is better than on a roadway, simply because roadways have historically attracted some of the worst in SL building. No matter where you buy, I would look around the sim, and see how long the other land owners have been there, unless you already know the sim well. This will give you an idea on land turnover rates in that sim, and is often a good pointer to a problem sim.

I appreciate the feedback, and I got my pie thrower tag today! The forums have helped a great deal in the last 2 months. Now I'm running home to take a dip in the linden ocean on my front porch! I'm ditching 2 rentals and 6 shops now, and only keeping the beachhouse for an escape :)
