Ok, I all over the forums I see stuff like windlight this or other view that... Are there different clients that I can use to connect to SL? And do any of these clients not have such a massive memory leak that my memory usage goes from 30k to 1.5 gigs by the end of a 4 hour session?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things. Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut. |

Personally, I use the First Look client, (which demonstrates Windlight) - effectively a test environment but "for real". As for memory leakage... as far as I'm concerned, ignorance is bliss - I've never checked my stats but am not aware of any slow down / problems with my PC after a lengthy SL session. _____________________

With that *huge* of a memory leak, it may not be client-specific, but rather a function of poorly implemented features in the graphics card driver's OpenGL libraries. Specifically, I'd suggest seeing if the leak persists without Vertex Buffer Objects enabled (in any client). AMD/ATI seems to fix and then re-introduce a problem with this, about every other release; dunno 'bout nVidia.

I am using the Windlight First Look Client and do not notice any memory leakage over time, I would say it is absolutely negligible Usually between 65% and 85% of my 2GB RAM. This depends on the complexity of the environment and other environmental factors, right now my biggest problem is graphic freezing in graphically complex situations which I believe may be my older PSU not keeping up with my new graphics card.

And do any of these clients not have such a massive memory leak Yes! (And his memory leak fixes get added to the Linden client too eventually, although then that add more apparently... Also he's fixed attachments up your rear after TP, numerous crashes, the IM window covering half the screen, forced updates, among slews of other things!) _____________________
