An adjacent parcel to mine, which I border on 2 sides, is owned by an avatar who doesn't show in People Search, or any of the other avatar tracking methods. This is an old avatar from 2005, his profile shows he belongs to 2 groups, but these groups' member lists don't show this name either. Is it possible this is an account that was abandoned long ago and which has fallen through the cracks? How would I go about starting an enquiry? I'd love to be able to buy that parcel. Any ideas?

Put in a support ticket and hope a Linden can sort it out for you? I wish you the best in getting this resolved one way or the other, and with all the stories I've heard and read of land falling through the cracks, I'm sure it will be.
Best of luck. _____________________

Bumping real question ...
Sorry, no real answer, but I'd be very curious to hear about how you resolve this if you can. I'm surrounded by absentee landowners. They do appear in search, but in the 10 months I've been there they've never logged in and their land is build enabled, so I'm surrounded by junkyards of abandoned vehicles, cages and the like. I've asked the Lindens if they could tidy it up, but I don't think they can if there's no complaint from the owner. They were pretty quick when prims overlapped onto our group land, I'll give them that. And presumably, all these peope are still paying tier, sometimes on large tracts of land. Very odd. |

this is what happens when an account has been suspended, most likely for nonpayment.
you can ask that the land be put up for auction, but you never know who might win that auction... As the account is 2005, this MAY be a "Lifetime Account". In which they have 1024m tier-free, and do not pay Account fees per month. This means that the account can never go delinquent in payment.
If this is such a case, LL will not do anything with the lands inhopes that the person will someday return to SL. However, this should not stop you from asking LL (through a Support Ticket, would be the best route, I'd think) about the land and possible purchase. Keep in mind that any parcel above 512m goes to auction. The "easment" clause to let neighboring parcels buy the land first only applies to parcels under 512m (unless of course, LL has changed this once again, but you can ask in the Ticket on this as well). ~Jessy _____________________

I have a neighbour who I've never seen at his house in the 9 months he's owned the land. His land has pay access but nothing ever happens there. He belongs to about 10 groups, 9 of which he started himself but his last login dates don't show.

I had the exact same situation. Yes, abandoned parcels can fall through the cracks, not reverting to Gov Linden for some reason. In my case, I kept an eye on the parcel and waited for six weeks. I figured if someone's been out of search for six weeks, their account is gone and they've relinquished any rights to land (as opposed to someone under temporary suspension or having temporary billing problems). I submitted a support ticket with all the details. As expected, it wasn't dealt with promptly, so I followed up with a live chat. The support person came out and checked the property, investigated the missing owner's account, and told me to check back in a few hours (some database problem kept him from finishing right then). Later that night the parcel was returned to Gov Linden, and the next day it was up for auction (which I had specifically requested). Two days after that it was all mine. ![]() |

That's encouraging Ava. This guy is nowhere to be found, I've sent him numerous IMs and notecards, no reply. The worst part is that he left the red ban lines up, so it's a major eyesore from my parcel. If only I could have that parcel reverted and auctioned, that'd be a start. Now, how do you go about creating a ticket? Is that from inworld?

The worst part is that he left the red ban lines up, so it's a major eyesore from my parcel. Yeah, my guy left build on and autoreturn off. I learned this when some jerk left sex machines for sale floating in the air. I was able to prim fill the land to prevent further garbage dumping, but I could only cover the sex machines with giant floating boulders that didn't look much better. If only I could have that parcel reverted and auctioned, that'd be a start. Now, how do you go about creating a ticket? Is that from inworld? You do that through the support portal on the web site. From the blog it looks like they are having trouble with that, though, and don't expect it to be fixed until after the holiday (so Monday). Since you're not familiar with submitting tickets yet, it's probably best to wait until it's fixed. Also, when you follow it up with live chat (which you will almost certainly have to do), it's kind of hard to find that in the support portal. You start by going to the Solution Finder. You select topics and do searches as it asks you to, and you keep telling it "my answer isn't here", and after about 4-5 steps, it will give you the links to start a live chat. If you need help with that, just let me know. ![]() |
