The Sim you were in is currently unavailable...

...redirecting you to a nearby region.

Just recently I was puzzled by this.
I am sure everyone has had the experience of a crash and when you try to log back in you get a message similar to the title, the Sim you are is is not currently available, redirecting to a nearby Sim.

What exactly does it mean by “nearby”?
I tested this. My home Sim is down so I repeatedly logged in to my home location triggering the automatic redirection every time.
On two occasions I was send to a Sim it had previously redirected me to.
On one occasion I was redirected to a Sim with scripts off.
One one occasion I was totally unable to telaport after log in (flash of black screen immediately followed by unable to telaport message)
on every occasion I was placed in a mature Sim.
On every occasion I was placed in a private island,
on one occasion I was placed in a Sim where I was immediately warned I was going to be booted in 30 seconds by the security system.
Never once, was I placed on a Sim actually connected, either directly or indirectly to the Sim I was supposed to be send to. And that really bugged me. It is surrounded on three sides and all four corners by other Sims which are themselves connected to other Sims.

So, is there any way to disable the auto redirecting?
Can you specify the rating or conditions of a Sim you are sent to?

It means you'll go somewhere on the same grid, I think.

That I would definitely report to LL.

The same Grid?
Does that mean you could potencialy be moved after the crash of an adult rated sim to one with a PG rating?

I was actualy looking for something like that.
And Huray! Up to 8 whole votes :P
I'll see if I can get some more

I do get that message when I log in with an alt that has no Home set (so by default that avatar's Home is the place it first was rezzed). On those occasions I get sent to the nearest InfoHub.

But when the thing you describe (crash, then attempt to go to Last Location) happens with my main, I just get the "currently unavailable" message and...nothing. So I type in some other Region name and get sent there.

I'm as puzzled as you as to why these different outcomes follow crashes...

In theory, it is supposed to send you some place nearby to your last location. Typically this will mean being redirected to an infohub. In the last couple of months, however, issues with that piece of "legacy code" has becomes somewhat glaring ::koff::Hau Koda::koff:: and it will some be changed to a different system.

No, but if you know the region you are logging in will be down, you can choose a different login location from preferences before logging in (or the little box on the main screen, if you have enabled this).

Not directly, though I suspect if you set your maturity preferences to disable a given maturity rating, you can avoid being redirected to specifically-rated regions.

There's only one problem with that. What if you have no clothes on?

The system should at least be smart enough to plop you in a compatible infohub, but the Zindra infohubs are safe zones. Unless they utilize another set of redirect parameters for those logging into adult locales. For example, default SL clothing of some sort.

What exactly does it mean by “nearby”?
Back in 2005 it meant "the next sim over", then it changed to something like "the nearest telehub that happens to be up". These days it means something like "the westernmost infohub that doesn't happen to be full". They quit bothering to even try for "the nearest" years ago, but never updated the message. And, yes, you can be thrown into a PG sim even if you were in an adult sim before. And no, you can't control the redirection.

I don't disagree. I'm sure plenty of people can tell stories of being redirected to hubs in their, um, birthday suit. I know I've been sent there a time or two in my jammies.

Just use the third option to log in: type region name

And enter Zindra. It's a Linden owned empty region on adult land, so arriving in any condition is safe, and low traffic/fast rez

Sometimes you should simply not try to even understand the system:

On one occasion I was put on an infohub. But got the security warning as well. Who in the right mind creates an infohub and then uses such a device to keep people out?

another more recent story is a great example of how good the system actually works:

Last week I logged in with my Alt. My own sim was offline so I was placed at the Zindra infohub.
now that infohub is on an Adult flagged sim. i know that for sure cause my partner could not go there at that time because she was not verified yet.

I am verified. But not with my alt! I can not TP my Alt there. Yet in this case the system itself placed me there.
My unverified ALT was absolutely standing on Adult rated land. and it indirectly was LL that put him there.

I still regret that I did not make a screenshot LMAO.

yes but if that particular sim happens to be down you will be redirected :D
Automaticly, no choice in the matter.

If I had an unregistered alt and a sim I knew would be down for a predictable amount of time I would definutly try to replicate this :D

I wonder if the redirecting also works if you are banned from the sim your homelocation is set and you try to login at home, might be worth a shot.
I'm offering to let anyone who wants to try set home on one of my sims and then ban the test account untill after the test.
IM me inworld or leave a message here.

A badly programmed security orb in an adjacent parcel?
