Missing Inventory!!!! HELP!!!!

Can someone please help me? I was trying to set up rental boxes and deeded my land to my group called 'Chill Dezigns Art Gallery'. Then i set it up auto return and i think this was done incorrectly.

The majority of inventory that made up my art gallery disappeared!!! Only a few chairs floating in the air! To correct the problem I tried clearing my cache twice. "Inventory" showed it was retrieving the stuff - item count went up significantly each time I relogged - but the items are not "physically" returned. I checked all folders, including 'Lost and Found' under both tabs.

This occured between 3 and 3.45am PDT yesterday. My avitar was situated at Lorrey on or close to 108,81,30.

If you enabled auto-return and the items were not set to the land group, they would come back to your Lost and Found, but sometimes back to their original folder. However, they usually come back in bundles -- a cluster of boxes is the icon in inventory -- and who knows what name each cluster picked up.

Look thru inventory for those cluster boxes.

One thing you can do is check Lost and Found for the coalesced object icon. It looks like a stack of the usual object boxes, and it could take on the name of ANY of the items it contains. If you find one or more of those coalesced objects and rez them, everything contained in them should rez in exactly the same positions, relative to each other, that they were in prior to vanishing.

(Edit: Lil typed faster than me on that one!)

I suspect your problems began when you deeded the land to the group. Did you change the 'set group' of all the items on the land to that new group? If not, then that's why they vanished when you switched auto-return back on: they would be regarded as prims rezzed by someone not in the land group, and thus returned as one or more coalesced objects. Alas, if you had no-copy items in any of those coalesced objects, they might have vanished for good.

You should have switched off auto-return and then either: a) deeded the land, followed by selecting EVERY item on the land and changing its group to the one you just deeded the land to, or b) the reverse of that.

Only when every item rezzed on the land is set to the group that the land is deeded to, should auto-return then be switched back on.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I know. I hope you can recover your gallery.

I'll look for the boxes you referred to. I had not changed all items to group ownership so that is likely the cause. Sadly, I had MANY non copy items. i am sooo disappointed but thx a lot for the advise.

Many thanks - there are coalesced boxes that contain lots of the stuff!!! How much of it that has been returned remains to be seen. Cant thank you enough for your help.

Is there some way I can select all inventory and set it to the group, rather than one by one? It'll take me ages to do it that way!

Yes, bring up the Build window -- Tools / Select Tool / Edit -- then use your mouse to draw a rectangle around all the objects, and/or use CTRL to select more items -- then set the Group via the General tab of the Build window.

Edit -- it is helpful, when using the 'draw rectangle around stuff' approach to also enable "Select Only My Objects" on the Tools menu.

Yep, open the editor (ctrl-3), drag the cursor over a piece of the screen, and a pile of objects will be selec-ted. You should be able to set the group on the selec-ted items all in one shot that way. You might find it helpful to turn on "selec-t only my objects" in the Tools menu while you are doing this, it makes it easier to skip objects from neighboring land etc.

If you're rezzing them straight out of inventory, simply make sure you're wearing the group tag for your deeded land, and everything you rez will be set to that group. If you need to change your items' group in the future, then the methods given by LittleMe and Viktoria, above, are best.

OK ... update for those who are interested. seems i got most but not all things back - so not as bad as i had thought.

Now the rebuilding begins with CAREFUL attention to group deeding.

I will say yesterday I had a horrible time wiht my inventory, granted my inventory is huge.. but it took a good 20 min for it to fully load last night.
Then i was missing many things..
since it was 1am my time I cursed a choice word added it to that and signed off.
Clearing cache usually works, but keep in mind you might have to do it a few times.

anyway.. just saying inventory lately for me loads slow and it snot always complete.
