I have a parcel which is not deeded but is ‘Set’ to a goup. I need to set things up so that I can create a role for group members who are allowed to create permanent objects, while all other group and non group residents objects will be returned after say 5 minutes. Is this possible?
I have tried every which way without success, then ran accross a JIRA issue which seemed to suggest that currently there is a problem.

Virtually all the group roles that relate to land permissions do not work unless the land is "Deeded" to the group. The group has to be the "owner" of the land in order for the owner-type rights to be assigned via group roles.

Roland, Ceera is right - land usually needs to be owned by the group to set the types of controls you want. One way you can do this and still be sure you retain all owner controls is to create a group, and make yourself and one alt you own (groups must have two owners) the owners of the group. Then deed the land to the group. Don't forget to contribute enough tier to cover it. Nice perk - you get an extra 10% of sqm of tier available for group land! You can then make categories for other members as restrictive or free as you need.

Hope this makes sense.

While most land editing controls are limited to deeding, i *think* what you want to do should work with simply "setting" to group.

You can at least turn off build (in land tools), leaving it to group build only. This will let *entire* group rez and leave permanent objects there. Yet parcel return will catch all prims not set to group.

I think splitting that ability by group role will require the land to be deeded.

It's not dangerous. Just keep you as the only owner, don't hand out rights or powerful roles to people who don't need them.
