Hi everyone, I was just wondering, does anyone know where you can buy low prim homes that are 512square metres? I have searched but everything says rent. Are 512 homes any good? is that reasonable size for first home? Many thanks for any assistance. Andrew

I don't have access to any landmarks at the moment, but find some freebies to start with. There are plenty of those available and you can give them a trial run and see if any of them meet your needs. When I get inworld tomorrow I'm sure I have a house or two I could give you, but I'm sure you will get plenty of advice here before then.

land and homes are sold separately.
if youre looking in the land search window in the client and keep finding 'buy for $1 and pay rent' listings, disable all search options other than 'mainland'. 512 is quickly outgrown, but you can usually buy another 512 in the same sim to effectively double your prim allotment. _____________________

A 10x20 metre home (200 sq. metres) is a good size to go on 512 m plots. A home that covers the whole plot of land would use a lot more prims.

I don't know what your tastes are regarding homes but you can pop by my place and have a look. I have a few homes that would easily fit a 512 plot and all are fairly low prim. You can also have a look at them before buying, at the rezzing platform to help you decide if they are for you.

Low prim 512 house

Try a search for the 'Lil Cottage range. Can't remember the maker and not in world to look for you - Coco something? I bought one a few weeks back for my 512 plot and love it. Very low prim count too. One room, verandah, security door and tintable windows. About 250 - 275 L$. No connection witht the maker - just a satisfied customer.

When I got my 512 I built a giant cookie jar for a store and placed it over a 2 floor 'underground' home with a living room, changing room, and skinnydip pond. It's lasted me over a year now with no real demand for more prims. With moderation, you'll be able to find something nice. (^_^)y

To echo the sentiments here. There's nothing like owning a piece of land and having a place on it. You can build quite a nice place with 117 prims if you're careful. I'm fortunate to have a partner who is a gifted artist. She's done some amazing things with textures. We started with a 512m and a free 10x10 2 story house and were able to expand our mainland holdings by buying the surrounding parcels to where we now have 1792m, and joined two of the 10x10 houses together and removed interior walls, put up a grassy lawn in front of it on a platform and now it's pretty nice.

A 10x20 metre home (200 sq. metres) is a good size to go on 512 m plots. A home that covers the whole plot of land would use a lot more prims. Uhmmm not that many more. Assuming only normal prims, so no megaprims: For a 30x15 house (easier to position on your land than 32x16, but costs the exact same amount of prims) ground floor = 3* 10x10 prims + 3* 10x5 prims = 6 prims flat roof: same as floor = 6 prims 2 long sidewalls = 2* 3* 10x8 prims = 6 prims 2 short sidewalls = 2* (1* 10x8 prim + 1* 5x8 prim) = 4 prims total: 20 prims for 450 sqm For a 10x20 house: ground floor = 2* 10x10 prims = 2 prims flat roof: same as floor = 2 prims 2 long sidewalls = 2* 2* 10x8 prims = 4 prims 2 short sidewalls = 2* 1* 10x8 prim = 2 prims total: 10 prims for 200 sqm Now you have 2 houses, one being 125% larger for 100% more prims. Neither has any windows or doors or inner walls yet. If you add 3 windows and a door to each house, you can add roughly the following to both houses: 3 windows: 3* 1 prim = 3 prims (assuming you just make a hole in the wall and add the glass) 1 door: 2* 1 prim = 2 prims (for a door, you'll have to shorten a wall, and add a prim for the piece of wall above the door, plus th door itself) Total: 5 prims 30x15 house: 20 + 5 = 25 prims 20x10 = 15 prims Now the bigger house is still 125% larger, but the effective prim usage is only 67% larger. Add more floors, inner walls, windows, etc, and the difference between the two gets yet smaller. But these 10 prims you invested so far give you more room to navigate in your house, and save you from having to sort out your garden. And apart from Linden trees and plants, a garden costs a LOT of prims. The problem most people have with being short on prims is rarely that their house takes too much room, though I can't advice going over 60 prims for a 512 sqm building, unless you REALLY know what you're doing. The problem is usually, that people try to squeeze too much stuff into their space, and are not prim-concious about what they put there. With the right textures and smart design, a 9 prim chair looks as good as a 15 prim chair. Usually even better, since the builder of a 9 prim chair builder generally has more knowledge of how to work with his prims than the 15 prim chair builder does.. And you can put down a coffee table with 2 couches and three comfy chairs around it, but where are you planning to walk in that room? Use the furniture as railing to guide you through? Jump over it? Try 2 couches and 1 comfy chair, or 1 couch and 2 comfy chairs. You'll find you rarely need more stuff to sit on, But properly placed, it still looks like a full room, with still plenty of space to walk and navigate through. The trick is to make the emptyness not too noticable. Another trick, for those with LOTS of stuff, is to put everything into rezzers. And I don't mean temp rezzers, I mean, by turning your room into a holodeck. You'll need copy and modify permissions on your items for this though. But basically, you can clear your livingroom and replace it with a bedroom with a single buttonclick. Or with a livingroom in another style for that matter. These things can be bought as-is, but if you can script yourself, it's a lot of fun to experiment with this as well. |

Copied from my note card of the unit I use on rental plots: "Houses That Jack Built" Irish Country Cottage. Cottage specs: - Ideal for 512 square meter plots!! - Only 25 prims, which can be reduced to only 17 prims if necessary by removing the fireplace/chimney. - Tintable windows. Want some privacy? The window tint control inside the front door allows you to adjust the tint on the windows. Tint ranges from clear through total privacy blackout. - Fireplace with burning logs and smoking chimney. - Lockable automatic closing door. current price as of 5/30/09: $400L SLurl: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Berkshire/207/145/24 _____________________

I never actually used my 512 allotment but it guess it would be good to take it for a spot for variety.
Does anyone have tips on where I could find a patch that would be within the 'Adult' rating or is that even possible yet? |

Park Life / Ace's Spaces make some very nice low prim builds that will fit on a 512. I have their The Cerl which is slightly different from the usual 10x10 box. There are a few freebies on XStreetSL that are low prim and fit on a 512. The Archer BSD house is nice.I second this about Park Life/Ace's Spaces. I have a bunch of their houses and I like that they are marked for what size lot they will fit on. It's easy to shop there. _____________________

Has anyone recommended Kornoscope Komachi's store yet? I've been very happy with the homes I've purchased there.
Many of the others already mentioned are good too. I also like the advice to seek out freebies and rez them just to see what's out there. And definitely experiment with building your own - there was a class at NCI (I think) on low-prim housing that really taught me a lot. _____________________

Unless you are planning to make the world's smallest orgy center then you should be fine building on a mature parcel. ![]() |

restrictions on adult content "in private"
05-31-2009 20:18
(You're) allowed to have a orgy in a private home, just not in a public place! Do we have a definitive non-weasel-worded statement from Linden Lab about this yet? (Not that they couldn't change their policies on a whim, as they are want to do...) I had understood that avatar actions and speech constitute "content", and that it doesn't matter if it's "behind closed doors", since anyone (adult, teen, whatever) could use their camera to see what's going on. I sorta thought that transient nudity behind closed doors while getting dressed was OK, but anything else was not going to be allowed. Or if it is allowed by LL, you still have legal liability for potentially exposing a minor to pornography. I really don't know what the rules are going to be, and I don't know anyone who does know for sure. Everything I've read from LL has been confusing, contradictory, or nonspecific; hence my conservative interpretation of the situation as they have presented it. |

If it's on mature it's ok for adult, I just set up an adult vendor on mine, it's a just few prims you can just set and leave if your not using it for anything. _____________________

Do we have a definitive non-weasel-worded statement from Linden Lab about this yet? "Advertised" and "public" seem to be the differentiators. Basically if it's on mature land you can do what you like behind closed doors so long as you did not put an advertisement/listing in search about it. The wording seems to imply what they are concerned about is their OWN liability - not yours. They don't want anyone to see certain things unless it's on adult land, and legally they can claim they did all they could to avoid minors seeing what they should not see/doing what they should not do. The Lindens have said that as long as you do not advertise it you will be okay. Private vs. public, basically. _____________________
