Interesting, I don't know never heard of them and I have been in numerous "virtual" worlds in last 12 years.
I always figured the technology came from first chat rooms and chat messaging type code.

Sounds a bit like the news report a few days ago about the Russian guy that claims he owns the copyright to the ":)" smiley face.

As long as we get to keep the sexy walk...

And has anybody looked at the worlds.com website? Pretty flat-looking stuff.

Interesting? Nah. I doubt they have a leg to stand on, despite the hiring of a "successful" firm to litigate for them.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

On that note, I saw a sign on a telephone pole that said a "multinational, billion dollar corporation" is seeking employees. I think I can smell the 7-figure income already. (^_^)y

As well as the Page Up and Page Down keys. No, I'm not kidding; I wish I were.

Who was it who went to court claiming a patent on hyperlinks? BT? They lost. anyway.

[added]
I've just read the article, and I wouldn't just shrug it off because of this statement:- "given how broad the patents are".

If they are really very broad - sort of like someone patenting a car with 4 wheels so that nobody else can make one with 4 wheels - I doubt that they'll get anywhere with them, and the cost of the patents would be down the drain. But if they are very much more specific, then it'll be down to the algos that each virtual world uses. I.e. how each one keeps track of where each av and object is. It may be that some virtual worlds use algos that infringe the patents.

Can innovation be patented?
Computer code imo is always innovation not invention.
