They've gotten a lot worse just recently--I could nearly always get them right, first try, in the past. But I recently went back to the new-name of the old SLExchange, not having been there in a while, and had to reactivate my account. And I think I had to go through eight of those until I finally got it right.

....more on topic: no, I haven't seen any 'captcha' boxes on anything officially SL, recently.

Hmmmm

Usually only get that if an incorrect PW has been entered more than once. It has happened to me when I've changed my PW than had a brainfart at next login. If you get it wrong twice you get the capcha.

So, it sounds as if Brenda Connolly tried to log in, but didn't get the PW right.

umm ...

So the question is, was it YOU at the keyboard when Brenda Connolly tried to login??

I dunno. I restarted the computer and it's back to normal now, it was wierd. Maybe it was a spoofing attempt.

Where you get asked to type in a phrase before submitting the form, often a phrase that is so hard to read that you have to guess what it says.

I, for one, would be 100% in favour of LL implementing a login CAPTCHA.

Maybe the ones we all used to see a year ago---but if they implemented the newer ones, we'd all be spending 20 minutes trying to log in.

Same here. Also, add a limit to consecutive login time where it automatically logs you out after, oh say, 8 hours. If you need to, you can log right back in.

And scammers can easily get around Captcha anyway. They've been doing it for quite a while. They just capture the Captcha, and present it to someone on their own website. Maybe they'd set up one of those "Fill out this survey for free Lindens" things to keep all their bots logged in. Captcha is useless against people determined to get in. It's the same way that locks are only used to keep honest people honest.

Excellent point.
