Hi, Now that SVU had a show featuring a virtual world, CSI:NY is featuring SL for real as part of an Oct 24th episode: In a project with the Electric Sheep Co., which is partly owned by CBS, the Oct. 24 episode of "CSI: New York" will feature Taylor, played by Gary Sinise, going into Second Life to chase a killer." The article goes on to say that an area in SL has been built for this episode and residents can go there to help solve this mystery and others. The second part of the episode will feature SL prominently and air in Feb.! SPOILER ALERT: THE FOLLOWING LINK CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT THE CSI EPISODE: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/10/11/BU8ASNTI7.DTL&type=businessI have many questions of my own about this merging of the two mediums especially since IBM announced it is working with SL to create a cross world standard for avatars so we can go a travelin and a shoppin in 3D bliss. Is this the future for SL? Not only as a waystop in a 3D grid but a basic location for the merging of TV, print and movies?

I'm very excited about this and sending major positive thoughts to the asset server! I have to work, so I won't be adding to the burden that hour. Definitely recording the show, as always, tho.
In answer to your question, I think it's entirely possible.

In terms of combining SL and RL, I also recently found this: IBM teams with SL to create cross platform Avatars http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=202401441 New RL store in SL http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/11/herman-miller-mlhr-giving-designs-a-second-life/There was also an article about Podcast Network finding that SL is the perfect place for other forums types to meet if a good conversation gets going. You are on a forum chatting, its good, you quickly meet in SL to continue the talk. But the link wasn't working this morning; might later. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/11/twitter-second-life-spontaneous-web-meetspace/Since I pay substantial tier and I'm trying to stick this out long term, I'm really interested in anything that indicates SL's possible future direction. I really think that SL will become a vacation and entertainment destination. Places like Caledon, Greenies and many more (and hopefully whatever I end up building). Just because of the creativity of its residents and the builds that have evolved over a long time and survived various upgrades. I think that reputation will be the key in SL and ways of communicating that will surface. I would really like to see a FaceBook for SL so that networks can be formed that can assist in spreading word of mouth. (or is there one I don't know about?) I think portals like the CSI one that sweeten the learning curve by providing ready made avatars will be key and also the guided entry into SL for people nervous about virtual worlds or risque content. lol, my 2 L worth for today.

I am planning to implement my new RL business venture into SL still a few weeks away, but if all goes well, people will do their xmas shopping through my store in SL, for their RL items.
only time will tell where and what directions SL will take
for now, I will just enjoy the ride

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

As an integrated whole SL/RL thing, why shouldn't there be syndicated "TV". With syndicated advertising if necessary because such things have costs which otherwise would need to be carried by someone.
There's already TVs which carry adult content to households, why not "TV" TV ...

From: Cherry Czervik why not "TV" TV ... You mean a TV show about a TV show? They do that already - it's all they really know about anyway, everything else in the world they get 180 degrees away from reality. It's kinda like industry-based masturbation is the only reality they can achieve.. and then they congratulate themselves over the weight their self-perceived importance. .. and now of course while a show is being made they are simultaneously producing a matching "The Making of _____" psuedo-documentary. How long can it be before this eternal self-infatuation spirals down another dimension - or even more? Soon somoene may try selling us "A closer look at the behind the scenes expose of the production of 'The Making of The 40-year old Virgin part VI' " (on pay-per-view)? Not long. I did see a place in SL where your Avi can pay an hourly fee to sit down at a computer and browse the internet. I'm pretty sure it was entirely tongue-in-cheek, which is awesome. I did start to imagine, though: maybe my Avi could get on the net, go to SL, make an Alt, DL a viewer and ... and then... go to that same place, sit beside himself, and pay to browse the internet... ad infinitum. (hehehhe.... imagine the lag)

I think the idea of merging a RL business into a virtual world to make it accessable across the globe is going to turn out to be an explosive new trend. We aren't there quite yet.....but it is certainly in keeping with the way technology is steering our interactions with one another.
If at this very moment, if I thought I could merge one of my talents IRL with SL and offer my services via cyber space....I would do it in a heart beat. It's something I will be keeping a keen eye on over the next few years and hopefully I will be ready to jump when the time is right in cyber space.
But, with that kind of change in global transactions....there also comes a huge bag of logistical hurtles to jump.....taxing issues....trade regulations......and so on.... this will have to be very carefully handled and monitered and probably there will be some serious screw ups on the way to making it a smooth merger between the real world and cyber. But it's upon us....I am convinced of that.
