So a bit more than a year ago I posted about th' damage to Wild West Town, a legacy build in Oak Grove. That thread also led to posting about other damaged legacy content. That is, stuff that was made by Residents as part of "community Projects" in the earliest days of SL, or old LL-made infrastructure, or even some Mole builds of today
Today I went back through all the JIRAs and support tickets, an reflected a bit on all of these. I'll include some of the JIRAs to outstanding stuff here, too, an would love to hear about others I might have missed.
First off, a lot of things have been fixed. Many of them were relatively simple fixes, or things that got fixed over the course of other LL projects. Some got worked on through some pushes and prods. Each of the issues, even when they have not yet been solved, have been at least examined by a Linden or two, even if it is simply to say "Aw, Geeze, I don't know what we can do to fix this one."
I am proud to note that you can again practice archery in Morris, and the original signs have been located and replaced at that site. Likewise at the old "Camp Linden" in De Haro. Games are working again in Ahern. Much of the park in Shermerville NW is usable again. You can drive over the bridge in Mimas without worrying about the bridge giving way, and will not fall through the gap at the dam in Ganeymede. Chalet Linden is no longer a victim of prim drift, and the ski runs in both Wengen and Voss are operable. Oh, and the Maze in Imaginario works like it did in preview.
The SLRR remains down, as does the Dore to Luna trolley, but the SLRR is back in development and waiting behind a ferryboat in the Blake Sea and a monorail in Zindra. Some of the infohubs that were missing their "I" on the map now have them (Hi Mahulu and Violet!) and while others do not, it is likely they're being phased out (Sorry Periwinkle and Luna!).
The ones still outstanding (and which I'd love to see some more votes on, if you feel so inclined) include...
The Jessie Wall:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1911
Site of the War in Jessie. 2/3rds of this wall are gone, lost to history, presumably. It is likely, however, that the missing parts could be replicated from the still extant parts.
Orientation Station in the Castle, aka Yamato town, Shangri-La
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2398
A community build from way back, saved by Residents before it could be deleted was back in the middle part of this decade. The orientation parts were recently worked over, which is a huge plus. Nevertheless, parts of the build remain damaged. That said, its not a hard fix. Still a good place to send the greenest of noobs for a brush up.
Mount G'al
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1139
Where you sacrifice noobs in order to please G'al and keep the grid happy. Unfortunately it's not lethal, and sending noobs into the volcano and Ichelus would be the better bet for now. Still, this volcano could be as big and bad as the Ichelus one with just a bit of work.
Wild West Town:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1073
Another Community build. Sadly, much is likely unfixable. Both the saloon and telegraphic office are gone, and prim drift has affected the theater, sheriff's office and others. might be worth a visit, if just to see what Second Life once was.
there are others as well, from prim rot in Ahern to unworkable playground equipment in Bay City - Imaginario, but those are somewhat lesser to the damage to the above legacy works.
Oh, two more notes: I think the *bigger* fixes are what we all want. Smoother border crossings, less crashes, no borked logins. None of the above fixes are ones that take away from the developers work, and fall under the Linden Department of Public Works' hands.
That said, the above is part of our history in Second Life, and if anything, it would be nice preserve it rather than losing what little of Second Life's earlier days still remain.
Oh yes, the question. Any other places like the above that are showing some damage and need a helping hand?
