Suggestions for streaming from inside of SL?

Hi All,

I'm looking for suggestions, and possibly third-party vendors, to help us come up with a way to stream an event (audio and video) in SL out to the Web. We'd also need to capture the stream for asynchronous rebroadcast after the event (we have the ability to host video files, so hosting isn't required for rebroadcasts). I've played around a bit with Windows Media Encoder, but I'm wondering if there are tools tailor made for streaming out of SL to the Web.

On a related note, we might have some presenters streaming into SL, while other presenters would be present/in-world. We have everything set up to stream video into SL, but would it complicate things to simultaneously stream into SL while broadcasting out of SL to the Web?

Thanks, in advance.

I know SLCN (slcn.tv) covered events live, streaming from, say, RacerX's Giant Snail Races. -They are apparently turning into treet.tv now.
It may be worth getting in touch with them, but I have no idea what/if they would be willing to do or tell you.

Nothing really set up for streaming out of Sl unless you use your own desktop to capture everything with FRAPS or some other gaming capture software. Then you would have to turn around and upstream it to your streaming server for everyone outside SL to see.
There are some TV groups and Mechinima groups that can do it on a professional basis .

There would be quite a delay i am sure ..
Sl doesnt provide much for streaming out.. but all the tools are there for incoming stream.

It's easily done with ManyCam and ustream.tv.

From an old post of mine:
You can stream live using two free programs: http://www.ustream.tv/ + manycam. I figured it out in half an hour or so ages ago, so it isn't hard (Ihaven't done it since then so I'd have to refresh myself on the ins and outs to answer in detail, though).

Here's a video tutorial: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/290389

Thanks Osprey et al!

Osprey, I've downloaded ManyCam and I've created a Ustream account. I then configured ManyCam to capture my desktop, which works like a champ. However, when I go in to do a test broadcast on Ustream, it only recognizes my HP webcam as a video source (as well as two mysterious Google adapters). How do I get Ustream to recognize ManyCam as the video source? Pointing my webcam at my monitor is obviously not a great option, but after looking at the sparse Ustream documentation, I'm at a loss.

I'm probably just missing a step. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I should actually read your post before writing, hah. Bad Os.

I'm not sure what's up. ManyCam needs to be set to desktop, ustream needs to be set to ManyCam. I'm no expert, but it just did it all as planned.
