Healing The Land?

We were flying around looking for a new place and came upon those little Healing The Land parcels owned by Governor Linden. Do those 'Healing The Land' Fountains lag the sim any? Seems a bit over kill to have one on each and every little parcel. Counted 12 of them in one little area. The particles and texture animation and sound they produce, I don't think that would be healing anything. Nice parcel near by all those fountains but they can be heard from a distance which would get on our nerves to. We're not going to buy there because of those. What's the point in having all those fountains anyway?

A little bit of history...

People have been cutting up good land into useless checkerboards of 16sqm parcels and using them for everything from advertising to extortion to simple harassment, as an inducement to buy them.

Several groups of people, including the Ad Zoo, Arbor Project, PEACE'n'HARMONY, Unknowable, Direct Action Land Repair, and many others, waged what amounted to a guerilla war against the continued abuse and harassment. One of the tactics of one of the groups, PEACE'n'HARMONY, founded by Klaatu Congrejo, was to buy a few of the parcels in each checkerboard that were dumped, and place small fountains as a symbol of protest to what was happening to the land, and to try to add a tiny bit of beauty in amongst what was then large farms of spinny, glowy, light-emitting ad towers and other prim garbage.

In the course of the last year, these groups, working together, finally convinced Linden Lab to clean up the mainland, getting rid of most all of the adfarming and harassment prims and tactics.

Unfortunately, before it came to pass, Klaatu's player in Real Life died suddenly of pneumonia around a couple months prior. Shortly before the newest policy came out which cleaned the land up, all of his land was repossessed by Governor Linden for non-payment of tier (for obvious reasons). As part of the reclamation process, land is not cleaned; blame the Lindens for not having a process to do it, but know this: had Klaatu lived, he would have happily removed his fountains, whether because someone asked, or because they were not needed anymore, as he was a most kind and giving person.

The particle count on the fountains is incredibly small, <50 per fountain, and there are not more than a handful of fountains in any one sim (to my knowledge). The sound is of water falling, at low volume, which is far from the most annoying sound in the world.

Now, you can AR the fountains to LL, and they will come by and remove them, but I would simply ask that you ponder them for a few moments before you do, realizing that they are the last remaining legacy of someone who selflessly gave of himself to help others like you and me.

Rest in Peace and Harmony, Klaatu...

talarus

that is heart touching

is it possible to get one of those fountains (that he created, not a copy of one, but actually a copy of one he made)

I would love to place one on my land where I have my little fountain now, as a memorial type thing (and if I can get one, do you mind if I use your post on a notecard as the history behind the fountain?)

Sad story to learn about a resident. Thanks for the information. No need to AR those then, we'll be off looking else where.

I *think* the version he put out is "allow anyone to copy", so you should be able to get one via "take copy".

If not, contact me in-world, and I can see about getting you one.

I also may be wrong about the particle count, as one of the early ones I have is ~340 particles. Even still, that's less than 10% of the default max particle count for the viewer.

once I have one I can determine the particle count, and if not, just leave that part out of the info

I want to put a touch to get notecard script then have that info on a card

I am not logged in at the moment
I will see what I can do when I log in, but if you do find one drop it on me anyway

It isn't a problem if you do; I can tell you that he would have no problem with them being removed, since the reason why they are there in the first place has been largely resolved. Take a copy and keep it, if you want. The AR isn't going to draw any kind of punitive action against his account, since it has already been purged from the world.

The last thing he would have wanted to be was an obstruction to those seeking to live their lives in peace and happiness, which is why he made them in the first place.

Eventually, I expect LL to come up with some kind of process to clean all of their abandoned/reclaimed parcels, and they all will go away anyway.

Just smile and enjoy what those little fountains bought. :)

That's a really lovely story... does anybody know where any of these are approximately, so I can go look? I haven't come across any yet in my travels...

You can visit Klaatu's memorial, hosted by Melodie Darwin, at the SLURL below, and there is a copyable version of the fountain there.

I talked to KC about his fountains shortly before his passing. He commented that they seemed to have taken a life of their own as "prolific little buggers".

The fountains are part of what was used during a very intense battle for the mainland. Sadly, KC passed before much of the recent changes. He would have promptly removed them in response to the new policy, or more importantly if they bothered anyone.

While KC didn't get to see the changes he worked tirelessly for, his passion inspired others to carry on.

I visited this garden last night. Such a nice memorial to what must have been a great soul.
