Conversion of openspace to real

I know "in the old days" you could convert a group of 4 openspace islands to a full, this was when you could only buy openspace islands in groups of 4. Does anyone know what the rule is now that you can buy them individually. I've just been speaking to support who said the conversion is still a 4 into 1. But what if you only bought one originally - I thought you could pay the difference for the upgrade ??

Any thoughts / experience here greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Converting Regions into Openspaces (and Back Again)

If you wish to convert an estate into Openspaces, you can do this so long as you still own at least one estate after the conversion. Similarly you can convert Openspaces back into normal land if you wish. Either way, there's a conversion charge of USD$100.

Converting One Region into Four Openspaces

If you're converting an existing region to Openspaces, submit a ticket of the Region Issues type with the following information:
  1. The name of the existing region to be converted
  2. The four Openspace region names
  3. The estate they should belong to
  4. Any region-placement details that you wish to pass on.
The single existing region will be converted into four standard, region-sized Openspace regions. You will be charged a conversion fee of $100.

If any of your Openspaces will touch another island, please ask the other island owner to file a support ticket giving permission for that placement. Update your ticket with their ticket number.

By default, Openspaces are delivered as open water with all land at 0 meters. You can terraform them as you wish when they're delivered.

Converting Four Openspaces into One Region

If you're converting four Openspaces into one normal region, submit a ticket of the Region Issues type with the following information:
  1. The name of the four existing Openspaces to be converted
  2. The name of the new region
  3. The estate it should belong to
  4. Any region-placement details that you wish to pass on.
The four Openspace regions will be converted into one standard region. You will be charged a conversion fee of $100.

If your region will touch another island, please ask the other island owner to file a support ticket giving permission for that placement. Update your ticket with their ticket number.

Converting 1 openspace into a full sim (assuming it's possible) doesn't seem like it would really be any cheaper than simply buying a new private sim and cancelling the openspace?

New sim: $1000 (includes first month's tier) + possibly $75 (current billing period of the openspace) = $1075

Conversion: $750 (the difference) + $100 (conversion fee) + $220 (tier difference) = $1070

Yes, I had concluded that I may as well buy an entire island as buy the 4 openspaces I was considering, for the same number of prims. However, I was told that I cannot use the new island prims on the old island, even though they will be adjoining. This will be a problem, as I wanted to improve the prim capacity of the exististing island.

Still waiting for Leo Linden to get back to me on this.... Sighs, he must be very busy....

Best wishes from Ainee Kohime

You can never "borrow" prims from one sim to use them on another.

The most you can do is "shift" everything so you have one half on one sim and the other half on the other sim although you do have to put up with sim crossings in that case which may or may not be an issue and you'll have to make sure that nothing overhangs from one sim onto the other (it'll work visually, but all the overhanging prims will seem to be phantom on the other side since they don't exist on that sim).

The only real example I can think of in-world that's publically accessible is Ahern and the Pooley stage. Both those Linden builds span multiple sims although there the purpose isn't to have more prims, but to allow more people.
