Please bear with me I just started today. I created my "look" and was fairly happy with it. I accidently removed something on myself (dont know what) and now I have a grey body with no features. I tried everything in the appearance tab and cant get it to change. I tried putting on things from my inventory and as example say put on shoes, it wil change the shape of my foot but I am still gray with no color, hair etc. I have tried everything and I cant get it to accept clothing HELP!

SL is full of these kinds of glitches. Try relogging a few times and if that doesn't work send me an IM and I hope we can fix you up.

Hi GadgetGirl, welcome to SL and the forums. :)

I've had this problem. It can be fixed, but it may take a few tries. Let's start with a couple of things...

1) Clear cache and relog. To clear the cache, open up Preferences, and under the panel called Network (I think?) you'll see stuff about your cache, and a button to clear it. Then log off and back on again. You might want to try this 3-5 times.

2) Try editing your appearance in a different region. If it still isn't working, try clearing your cache again a couple times in the new region (logging off after each clear cache).

If you need a private place to change, just let us know... there are some places around the grid for new people to change without getting harassed. :)

I forgot one common thing to try.

Check your menu bar to see if you have a Client menu to the right of the Help menu. If not, press ctrl-alt-D to bring it up.

Under the Client menu, go to the Character submenu and select Rebake something-or-other at the bottom (I'm doing this from memory :) ). That should force your clothes textures to reload (when things are working properly).
