I bought something that was meant to be Copy + Modifyable, but it is neither.

But now it's listed in my inventory as No Copy No Modify No Transfer. They're the "[CDD] Headphones - Rave *Biohazard*" https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=1489964And they're clearly listed as Copy + Modifyable. What on earth is wrong with my clothes? I'm also pretty sure this has happened to a few other of my things. Is this a common error... or am I just doing something very wrong?

The no copy is probably a mistake on the creator's part - everyone has done that at one time or another (forgotten the perms on a script/animation, etc..) Ask the creator to fix it and they should probably do so. Lots of scripts are no mod, which will make an item appear to be no mod when in inventory but when you rez it you can modify all the normal parts you would want.

Sorry I'm still new, so I only understood about half of that. The weird thing is, I was able to scale them when i bought them so that they fit over my hair. But now it's like this. Edit: It's the actual headphones I'm trying to resize, and I've done it once before. But now I can't.

I've had this happen too.
I wanted an espresso machine for my cafe, and I wanted a copy/mod one.
So I went to a shop that had one marked as follows on a JPG image:
Copy: [X] Mod: [X] Trans: [ ]
With the [ ] boxes all the same size in each spot.
So I bought it.
And it was trans. Builder said the 'X' in a box meant not that... but an empty box mean that. - Opposite from what I'd learned in my life, where you check/fill/X a box when that is included... And doing so is what I'd seen everywhere else on the Grid...
But... he did let me give it back to him and get a refund.

The headphones expressly state that it should have Copy and Modify though.

Are you trying to resize downward? Sometimes if a prim in the linkset has reached it's smallest size the whole item will resize no further.
The no copy part is probably a mistake, I think you need to contact the creator and have them fix it. Items shouldn't be released as both no copy and no transfer and the XStreet listing you said specifies copy ok, so it is likely a creator mistake.
Pussycat, I agree that the seller there should have done a better job making the permissions clear. When I do mine, I use a green check mark next to the allowed permission and a red X next to the not allowed permission. It helps to clarify. If every content creator used a common system to designate permissions it would be helpful to customers.

I'm trying to resize upwards. There are no grey boxes to drag to change the shape at all. There used to be when i first bought it. But not anymore.

If I create a prim or primset, and set its permissions to No Trans, then in the contents of that prim I put a script that is No Mod, and an animation that is No Copy; what will someone who buys that see as the permissions when it is in their inventory?
Could I sell that item on XStreet and describe it as Copy and Mod (referring to the prims only)?

Could I sell that item on XStreet and describe it as Copy and Mod (referring to the prims only)? In Inventory the item would show as no mod/no copy/no transfer; you no doubt have packing boxes in inventory now with those permissions. I think selling it as having Mod permission is perfectly defensible, inasmuch as the prims are modifiable even though the script isn't. Technically it's not completely correct, but it would be more incorrect to call it no-mod. I sell a few products like that and have some long-winded explanation in the info card that you can get before buying, but I don't know if anybody reads those, nor if anybody expects otherwise: I've never gotten a complaint about it. I don't think there's any way that this example could be called "Copy" however. If you can't copy the anim, presumably you're not able to copy the product in any meaningful sense. To the OP's problem: What's listed as the object's permissions in inventory can be confusing, as described above. But it would be very strange if an item really changed permissions after you used it. It is possible for permissions to change when an item is first rezzed from Inventory (it's complicated, and one of the ways creators can end up distributing items with permissions different from intended--possibly the origin of a copy permission error by the creator, as Isablan mentions), but I don't know of a way that something that's already rezzed and behaving with one set of permissions could lose those permissions, short of some horrendous SL bug. I agree with the recommendations to contact the creator to see if there have been similar reports, and to get a replacement set. It's copy perm, so there's nothing to be lost by giving you another copy, assuming it can still be found in the transaction history.
