Is someone able to tell me what happens about rezzed objects in a group owned land after an account is cancelled?

I need to know before cancelling a former AV
Thanks

Why cancell an AV? Just stop using it and if it is premium downgrade it.

Nothing will happen to the object, but if it is transferable you might want the current owning av to get it back first (via buying or returning) and then have that av give it to you and you give it back to the group. That way, if a 'return' glitch ever happens it does not just go poof.

Exactly. As long as rezzed items are owned by a cancelled account, they're just time-bombs waiting for the first mental lapse by the landowner. (And I agree: I can't dream up any reason to ever cancel an account rather than simply downgrading it to Basic.)

I've seen a few accounts that were cancelled, or abandoned due to inactivity. The prims existed, even tho the account owner could only be found by examining the prim or land it was on, and not thru a direct search for the owner.

The prims continued to exist. The vendors continued to work. Until a linden came along and cleaned things up.

Where does the money go if someone buys something from a vendor where the owner is no longer in SL?

The only accounts I have ever "Cancelled" were ones creates solely to test the login process, or for other short-term testing purposes. Accounts which never owned anything worth keeping.

For any account you just don't plan to use in the foreseeable future, if they are Premium, downgrade them to Basic, and they will remain available forever, even if you do not use them. If they are already Basic, just ignore them. They will be there for you if you need them in the future.

The only down side of abandoning a still active account is if your e-mail changes, and you can't recall the e-mail account for that alt and want to revive it. If you forget its password after months of inactivity, they can send a password renewal to the e-mail it was registered with. But if you no longer have access to that e-mail, it takes a support ticket and many questions answered before they can revive it for you.

I have seen vendors left behind by individuals whose accounts were perma-banned and deleted. They continued to operate for over a year, vending product and collecting L$ (which went straight to the bit bucket, since there was no account any more to collect the money). They remained in operation until the new landowner changed things around and returned or deleted the prims.

I have seen large sections of group builds go "Poof!" and be destroyed because prims belonging to an inactive account were deleted, and the account owner was no longer around to replace them. But they remained for many months, even years, until someone needed to move them and no one had the rights to do so.

I have seen whole sims full of content sit there until the Premium account owning them lapsed, got suspended, and got deleted. And still the prims remained, until the new land owner removed them. Any no-transfer stuff just went away when returned, with an account for them to go to.

Transferrable things that were group owned could be reclaimed by the group by selling them to an individual, moving them and deeding them back to the group.

unless it changed it used to be that even a permabanned account continiued to exist and have inventory etc. it just was deleted from search and groups, all other links where kept intact, land holdings, prims, friends, ban lists, L$, inventory etc.

Straight into the Bit Bucket, as a "Sink" on the economy. In other words, those L$ are taken out of circulation, and no one gets them.

Yep. I've AR'd land owned by canceled accounts to get it abandoned so nearby land owners could buy it.

It takes a Linden to clean this kind of stuff up, but they will do it if someone makes them aware of it.

That said, sometimes you might think the account is canceled, and the Linden comes along and tells you otherwise - leaving that doughnut hole or whatever there...
- Whereas other Lindens will take away land that is a doughnut even while the land-owner is known to be active...

Its better not to cancel an account. Just downgrade it and leave it idle. You may need it for something later. I do not know, but if an account is canceled, it may or may not be possible for someone to then claim that name. If this is possible, you might want to avoid canceling just for that reason...
- if the account was once active enough that the name's re-use by a griefer could do you harm.

Not true. I paid $9.99 for a "life time" account back in '04 and LL deleted it due to inactivity.
I'll spare ya the details but I suggest logging into unused accounts about once a year or so.

Canceling an account doesn't even free up one of the "five per household" slots.

Yeah, but that limit is not enforced anymore, so it doesn't really matter.

It's enforced in the sign-up screen if you don't change your sign-up details. It's also still in the documentation. I'm not going to ignore it so long as it's actually there.
