I have lost several hundred items in my inventory. Everything was there yesterday, but now, only the folders remain. Could this be due to the "never-ending, never-fixed" maintenance we have going on right now? If not, how did so many random things of mine just disappear?

Clear cache, relog. If that fails, do it two or three times more. Yes, that actually does help in most cases. If not, put in a support ticket.
