Appreciate the advice...

I generally use SL Exchange, and usually have my money in my PayPal account within five or ten minutes.

Just seems there is such a big gap between the 'buy' and the 'sell' pricing.

That's the reality of any currency exchange.

Everyone has to take into account LL's 3.5% cut, otherwise they wouldn't make any money. The question, then, is how fast do you want your cash? If you are willing to pay a premium to have your money in 10 minutes, use something other than the LindeX. If you can wait a week or two, use the LindeX.

heyas;

IS it the 3.5% or is it the buy/sell difference?

because fiddling with the buy/sell here on secondlife.com, i can get 186 ells for 1 dollar, but to get one dollar out, i need to sell about 286 or so? that seems a high spread to me, too. and that's just typing in numbers, not going through the transaction to get to the 3.5% cut.

not that im a financial guru, by any stretch of the imagination.

you are buying too little, the fee is eating it up at 1Dollar thats why you see that big differance.

the sell has a 30 cent fee on a 1 doll transaction doesnt leave much leftover ;p

For real :

Use Market LIMIT Orders for BUY and SELL and you get a MUCH better rate

If you dont understand how limit orders work, read the stuff on the lindex page or read this page

mmm....

no, i sold 20K in ells and got 69.93. that STILL comes out to 286 ells per dollar. 285 - 3.5% is NOT 186. even my math-incapable brain can see that.

or is that 3.5% of my 69 bucks is NOT 100 ells? gawd, im SO confused!

L$20,000 / 277 (average sell rate) = $72.202

$72.202 * .035 = $2.527

$72.202 - $2.527 = $69.675

Give or take a few L$ on the exchange rate. That's how they do the math.

I've never used SLX's exchange and I haven't really understood their "pips" terminology.

On the LindeX though, it seems pretty straightforward to me --

Sell L$265 = US$1.00
Buy L$275 = US$1.00

The difference between 265 and 275 is --- about 3.5%

Actually 265 times 3.5% is 9.275, so L$265 becomes L$274.275 but the difference between that and the 'buy' offers / market buys is (I think) the 30 cents per purchase that LL takes.

Really though, the L$10 difference between the buy's and the sell's works out to LL's take.

That's my simple grasp of the LindeX currency exchange.
