I've had it with griefers. The sim Colona is being so lagged out because of griefers, or a griefer, it's getting very old. At least once a week I send a report for these particle generators that they/he/she puts out in that sim and the surrounding sims. Today it's the same griefer name as a week ago. We can't enter the sim and when we do finally get in we can't move at all. Today it's the "pools closed" particles so thick you can't see. Yesterday it was the money particles just as thick, as was the day before.
I used to think it was OK to have nonpaying alts, my wife and I have a few each, but now I'm starting to rethink it. This is not doing our business any good at all.
It's not like we don't have a hefty tier, she is at $125 a month and I'm at 40. I think we deserve better support because of that alone. Help island has never been any help, one guy asked what the issue was and couldn't understand what a particle generator was...go figure. I guess that's what we get when help is anyone who wants to be at the help island.
Who ever does bug reports is off weekends I guess. Something like this should be checked out fast, with minutes, not the next day or whenever someone decides to take time out of their busy schedule of IMing and coffee breaks.
Well enough of that rant...lets see some progress LL, this is outrageous and very poor "help".

It could still be done. Just would need to have any unpaid alt linked to at least one paid alt. Not hard to do and would resolve many of these problems.

I think I get more upset at the other land owners who allow this to happen by not properly setting their parcel permissions. Something as simple as turning auto return on would help alot.

Great idea, has that been looked into? I would think it would have and it seems like such an easy thing to do. And if so, why don't they just implement it? Thanks fellow SoCaler

I would think even Gov Linden land would be automatically set that way but there are so many Gov Linden properties that are a catch all for everything prim and scripts adding to the sim lag.

Maybe I misunderstood that, but help island is NOT the right place to look, nor is filing a bug report (JIRA)-you need a support ticket through the website support, or even try live chat via support.

Well why call it help island if it isn't any help except to tell a newbie how to change clothes... I did put in a ticket and the the particle generators were filled with an abuse report by both myself and my wife. All of this was done hours ago and I still can't easily enter Colona and the "Pools Closed" particles are still everywhere in the surrounding sims. When do the Lindens get out of confessional...hehe?

Supposing that SL did replace and enclose the internet, thus acquiring millions of times as many users as SL has. This would mean millions of times as many troublemakers.
How would that work out?

Thanks fellow SoCaler Couple of reasons: 1. Those who are under the belief still that SL is this bastion of freedom and anarchy would cry foul very loudly. Eventually they'll figure out it never really was (even if it was promoted as such). It's a company offering a product, plain and simple. 2. They still need to get their numbers up. As the numbers continue to rise, which they will, you'll see that eventually LL will finally implement a no free av's policy (or at least require payment on all files). It has to. They can't continue growth with the regular chaos that goes on. We'll not see this happen, though, until they can afford to lose a huge drop in resident numbers and still have a very healthy population. It's a lovely day in the LA South Bay. Hope Malibu is doing as well.

From: Max Pitre ... particles so thick you can't see. Yesterday it was the money particles just as thick, as was the day before... Not a full solution, but a way to deal with this (at least to be able to use teh sim and file an AR on the idiot) is to use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+= (Can also be accessed via teh CLIENT>>RENDERING>>TYPES menu) This turns off particles from being rendered on your client. Note: This setting does not save over a login, so be sure to log into another sim if need be. While LL still needs to address this griefer, this will let you act within the sim and surrounding area without the gawd-awfull lag. ~Jessy

~Jessy Thats great but since I do have a business on the sim and I do sell particle items I can't expect customers to have to do that if they can't even get on the sim half the time and when they do they can't move. I do believe there is something set on the sim to lag it out more than just the particles, no proof of course. Once on the sim I have to relog just to get off.

LL hopes to dramatically increase the number of people using Second Life. There are troublemakers currently able to render Second Life useless or to make the full use of it's feature impossible. Suppose SL had a million times as many troublemakers, in proportion to the increase in the number of users. How would you deal with a million times as many "Pools Out" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" and Goatse particle generating floating physics cubes? ----------------------------- Still can't get in the Colona sim.

Still can't get in the Colona sim. Easy. For one I would require everyone to be a paying member. If one has alts then all the alts would have to be registered to a paying member with a cap to how many alts you can have under that account. Second, if an alt is caught doing this then the paying member and all the alts would be banned from the world for a set time (seven days maybe?). If caught twice then the paying member and all the alts would be banned indefinitely. Third, one of the issues I have with this problem is that this nonpaying griefer is the same one that did this just last week. Punishment in SL should be a bit more severe than it is and (Fourth) support for this type of issue should be 24/7, not 8 to 5 M-F. As a couple we pay over $180US a month so I expect better service than this. I expect LL to ensure that our in world experience is as a pleasant one as possible. We understand that there will always be A-holes in the world but not putting immediate attention to this type of problem is inexcusable. You tried to get in the sim? I got in but couldn't move then had to log out to get off the sim. Imagine what my customers think now...

Max, if she is paying $125.00 per month then she qualifies for concierge support. Have her go to the support page and start a live chat requesting help. I have heard they are very helpful to the concierge level customers.

I just now became able to get into the sim. It's been out of commission for me since I first posted, hours ago.
The past four or five days of griefing attacks, with the biohazard floating cubes and the teenage mutant ninja turtles and the goatse porn spreading across dozens or hundreds of sims has been remarkable. I won't say it's been the worst there's been, but it's been notable.

From: Max Pitre I would think even Gov Linden land would be automatically set that way but there are so many Gov Linden properties that are a catch all for everything prim and scripts adding to the sim lag. governor linden land is supposed to have auto-return on at 5 minutes. if you are near a plot that isn't, they will change it if you contact them. of course, "contacting them" is another problem entirely.

Something as simple as turning auto return on would help alot. i fully agree. i only wish the default was a 5 minute (or so) auto return. not the "0" setting it is now. i have a friend who buries tiny prims on "absentee landlord" land that has auto-return off. he fills the land until the prim allotment is used up. it keeps garbage from accumulating on the land and if the landlord DOES re-appear, he can easily get rid of it by turning auto-return ON.
