Hi Everyone, I was hoping i could get a little help from the SIM owners if possible - could someone give me a quick How-To or a n00b guide on how to divide the land in a SIM up into equal plots with a gap between them for privacy? I have never done this before so any help or tips would be MOST appreciated of you. HUGE thanks to anyone who does help and remind me to buy you a pint or a bottle of vodka Cheers, Jacker

Just edit terrain and split the parcel up. Getting it even everywhere is a bit of a pain in the arse.
You'll want to have "View, Property Lines" on. Then you can just follow the existing lines to create spaces in between the parcels.
I'm not sure if there are any builder's tools to help with the measurments. You'll be subdividing a lot.

Thanks Ciaran!
Does anyone know about any tools which could help with this? Also once i have edited the terrain how do i set the land up so that other people can rent/buy it? (not the rental systems i already have that just prepping the land is all i am interested in.
Thanks,
Jacker

there are no tools that i know of, but the easy way is to cut the sim in half, then quarters then eights, ect ect.
keep checking to make sure all the plots end up equal, its easy to miss your mark by 4 meters and end up lopsided

privacy gap? thats land you cannot sell. ever. and the meters will add up too. personally if i saw a region like that i would e terrified to buy land on it. it will look a lot like a preplanned adgrid or whatnot. i think it will scare a few people away and devalue the land, and since you will already have less land to sell i dont see how it can be profitable. I'm not sure that the intent *IS* to sell this privacy gap land. It's also not uncommon to see land divided this way, whether for privacy or not. Almost all of the commercial Dreamland sims have walkways dividing the four quadrants. I also have land in a residential themed sim that is divided this way to provide walkways for visitors and residents alike.
Having a bit of privacy space also reduces the chance of residents from overstepping the boundaries of their land with prims, thus reducing headaches for the manager of the sim.

dreamland is not a mainland sim. they dont give up all recourse when they sell land. the only time this would be useful on mainland was if you were renting the land out.

Oh if it's a mainland sim then people will think "ad farm" right away.

Looking over the thread again, I'm not sure that the OP ever mentioned *being* on the mainland. Nevertheless, if he's got a full sim to work with and the land is being split up in a reasonable manner (IE: no 16sqm parcels etc) I don't see how this could feasibly construe 'ad farm', especially since he mentions he's got all the rental boxes et al ready. Even if it is on the mainland, hats off to him for actually *wanting* to create a pleasant community with minimal res-res conflict.
As for how to create bands of subdivided land between two larger lots, I would work with a larger piece of land, use the land editor tool, select the band of 'privacy' land I wanted to define, then click 'split'. Such changes can be easily rectified if in error - simply select land within the two parcels and click 'join', noting that properties of the land you select more of during this join will be applied to the other parcel.

if it is indeed mainland, and its being rented, then thats great. but he said 'rent/buy' which implies selling mainland to me. i dont really want to argue about this.

I have a full set of tools for dividing up land, providing that the sim has not been landscaped yet. If this is the case, IM me in world and I can loan them to you and give you a quick tutorial.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the help! We would be splitting the SIM up into 4 equal areas to sell/rent out to people. But as Aki Shichiroji pointed out the privacy gap is to go between the 4 plots so when we sell the land out or rent it out (Depending what is decided) then people know exactly what is there land and what is not. As for the land type, sorry i didnt mention this before but its a private sim so its not mainland. However i would be interested in any tools you know of that might help me do this Thanks again everyone, Jacker

Don't bother with the "gap". You can't make it wide enougth to make a reasonable difference without wasting a lot of the sim.
If the land owners are unsure of their boundries, they just turn on "View Parcel Boundries" from the View menu.
I just moved into a sim that is divided into 4 parcels. Three are for the three households living there, and the fourth is a small 2048 M2 common area in the middle. I terraformed mountain ridges to divide the parcels for privacy, and the result is stunningly beautiful.
