I have some "poses" which came in a free bundle. I have a vague idea I need to make a pose ball to use them. Is that correct?

But can they be used with other objects? Could, say, a bracelet contain a pose script which would activate when the bracelet is worn?

Very new to all this, but wanting to learn.

you probably don't need a pose ball. Open up the bundle and see if you can just wear the poses though. If they are just 'poses' though, they are just still poses, not moving poses like an AO (Animation Override) which places your avatar in a changing, fluid pose every few seconds or however long you'd like to set it for. Others here can explain that more clearly than I can. I've never found any use for just still 'poses' or 'stands'. Maybe would be good for photo shoots?

normally those poses you can't wear. Right click on them from your invevtory and choose either "play in world" or "play locally". Play in world lets other see the pose......play locally, only you an see the pose. You can put them in objects though but you need a "sit" script to go with it so when someone clicks on the object and "sits" the animation or pose plays in world.

For static poses, the best uses are in objects like furniture or in a pose stand for picture taking or sometimes in a pose ball for a set scene. If the poses are animations - they use the same icon - then they could be dances or they could just be an animated pose. Some animated poses are used in furniture or other items to provide action -- a fidgeting sit, a kiss or hug with caresses, and most of the sex poses.

Ah, I'd missed the "play locally" and "play in world" options - I had thought one had to wear them. Thanks for clearing that up.

The furniture idea I like - must try that.

Thanks, people.

You can find empty freebie poseballs. Try Yadni's Junkyard.

To put a pose into a piece of furniture, there is a free item on XStreetSL called "LearJeff's Sit Target Positioner" (I think that's close). It helps you to put a pose into a prim and get it positioned correctly.

To use them, you either use them directly from your inventory (as stated above), or else you need a scripted object to run the animation on you. These scripted objects can work in any number of ways; here are some examples:

- Poseballs

- Furniture with poses "baked in" (using something like the sit target positioner Lindal mentioned)

- menu-based furniture -- letting the user choose the animation by menu button.

- worn objects (attachments) -- for example, when you wear a pistol, it can put your arm in a pistol-holding position.

- AO or "Animation Override" which changes the way you stand, sit, or walk. Usually a HUD, but sometimes built into something like a pair of high heels that make a lady walk all sexy like.

Yess.

To do the above, you need the appropriate scripts.

There are a number of freebie poseball scripts. You can find one via my FREEBIES profile pick (though you have to have access to adult land). The free sit poseball also comes with a dozen or so free sit animations, full perms for any purpose.

For menu-based furniture, find out more here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/In-World_Maker_Tools, which covers MLPV2 and a little about MLP. XPOSE is another option, though not a free one.

For simple application for a worn object, see if you can find a freebie beer bottle or cocktail. Many of these have free scripts that are suitable. Most need a simple mod to use whatever animation is in the object's inventory, rather than having to put the animation name in the script. IM me ingame if you want an example.

Usually people wouldn't want something like a bracelet to include a pose, since they'd like to wear the bracelet during normal activities. But I'm sure there are good exceptions to this general rule.

Thanks; that's a good suggestion.

Nice link. Thanks for that, and for the detailed answer. I'm getting a handle on the ideas now.
