Is there a public SLRR train? Does anyone know where it is located?

This may be hugely out of date, but I just bought a plot that houses a section of the old tracks in Sabre. And I am building a station and a lil loading area off the tracks, and I did buy a personal train, that said it used the old Linden scripts, but what scripts are these anyway.

The train system just follows a prim named 'guide' and I did manage to find an old SLRR freebee kit, I assume for developers, and of course the train was not boxed in this.

So where was the initial freebee area for the SLRR anyway. I can't find anything in the blogs past 2005. Rightly so, but there is no train anyway, not that I can find. But there is the notion of developing a new public train on my land, and have it rez over the tracks, and be public use, and temp rez so it will die when people stand up.

But I need the scripts first, way before I even try and figure out a way to do this. Anyone, even contact me inworld and drop me a copy of the old Linden train, if anyone has one.

For that matter, does anyone have experience building their own station and how this was with the Lindens. Of course I am anchoring it all back onto my land, and making sure I don't actually block the tracks. But I am installing my own track set, and linking it onto the main tracks. With the official Linden tracks that is.

Thanks a million.

Might check into the group Second Life Railway Consortium, and possibly chat with its founder. Also, back in September, there was some talk about removing the SLRR "center rail" collision guidance mechanism, in favor of the hypothetical "track sniffer" capability; if that happens (or happened), any pre-existing SLRR scripts will be completely useless--as opposed to just not very useful, as is the current situation.

There's lots of history and technical details about the various railroads. Formally, "SLRR" refers to the Heterocera Atoll continent's rails, and yep, that's where Sabre is. :) But Sansara has/had a different system, "GSLR".

But the consortium members can tell you much, much more.

thanks, so far lots of train fans, and no working trains, and the proposition to remove them all together, not good

Moundsa Mayo is a great contact on this.

The SLRR was in trouble some months back, with train service being spotty across the Heterocera Atoll. Havok 4 did it in, as well as the Luna to Dore trolley, as well as the privately-owner GLSR. You may find that some of the time the trains using the old scripts go off track, or have difficulties climbing grades. At least that's been my experience.

The LDPW, from anyting I've heard, has been working on revising the trains on a non-public location before doing the public update. As I've seen what looks like work goin' on with the Luna trackway, I suspect that's gettin' close. I know they'd planned a 4th quarter of 2008 roll-out, but it's awful close to that now.

I can't wait t'see 'em back.

Wow, what a cool project, I hope you are successful. I have ridden a lot of private trains in sl but have never seen a train running on LL's railway except for the trolley that leaves the Luna Welcome area, the last time I did this I seem to remember it was having some difficulties.
Oh, and welcome to Sabre, my first home in sl was there, a 512 sq. m. parcel that I purchased about a year and a half ago and I still own land there fronting the road that the LDPW just put in. Good luck with your endeavor.

Difficulties is an understatement. Right now there are several pieces of tramway missing in Luna, and the train floats its way straight over to a sandbox in Morris. See http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1836 -- and vote while yer there. :-)

Aside from private rail lines (and simple objects like the chair lifts in Wengen and Voss or the limited vehicles in Mos Ainsley), the only regularly running public vehicles are the SLRR's trolley and water trolley in Bay City, the balloon in Bay City, and the recently revamped balloon tour in Ambleside.

Also of note: a rusted out trolley that does not match any previous designs is lying in the water some ways off Nautilus City. My suspicion is that it is a distressed version of one of the planned nnew SLRR vehicles.

While we're talking trains... if anyone happens to have access to one of the old official SLRR trains, I'd love to get a copy. :-)

Well so far I just have a public rez spot on the SLRR which is here http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sabre/178/122/90

Feel free to conduct mad experiments if you want, lol

I hear that the SLRR trains are all basically paperweights now, the script sets are not havok 4 compatable.

Paranthrene (124, 57, 107)

Objects can live for 60 minutes and it's adjacent to two SLRR lines, plus you can just go up the hill to Miso's Hillside Tap for a quick pop when you need a break.

Contact Jer Straaf who also will be happy to show off his trains, talk about trains and fill you with trainy goodness. Oops, that last part is too good of a setup...

Some of his trains feature the ability to warp over the gaps in the SLRR, and can run the full length of the system. Others can be programmed to automatically drive passengers around on a specified route.

they do, and to great lengths as well, they will warp you over the great wall as well, it looks a bit silly driving down it, but its only a few minutes
