Trying to get a decent avitar

98% of my avitar is made up of one of those 'newbie sets', mostly because I can't really find anything to put on it without changing the avitar into something completely different. Let's be honest, no-one likes an avitar that can literally be described as 'vomit' so I am stuck with the skin I have to avoid this. The skin I have is white. I've tried the occasional 'good quality skins' but my avitar isn't even close to 'appalling quality' let alone 'good'. And the skins I'm looking for are surprisingly hard to find. Don't people make skins that aren't normal human colours in SL? Or is it impossible to make skins like that?

So I'm planning to make my own clothing and skins ect. I've figured out how the 'build' tool works, but how do make anything to go on the avitar?

For clothes making tutorials, I'd suggest taking a class in SL.

For making skins of different tones with ease:

(upload textures and use them as tattoos on a full perm /new skin).

Making your own skins and clothing takes skill and practice, and is something you won't be able to do well immediately.

By all means learn how to do them if that's what you want, but you'll probably want to find some skins and clothes to use in the meantime.

Fortunately, if you do want to make skins and clothing, you can find great advice, tutorials, and links to tools if you go to the Texturing Tips forum.

You can find the things for which you are looking, but it may take a little digging and patience, and may not be available for free.

A name like "BimboZombie Morpork" is too awesome to waste on freebies. I wish you well.

Have you tried Celestial Studios (or CS)? They do pretty good skins, not hugely expensive. The CS Passport Malibu skin is a popular freebie too, I used that for a while when I was new. It's more realistic than a lot of expensive skins but not as good as their paid-for skins. I have no connection with CS (other than my own appearance!).

Making skins is difficult. Although I always use my CS skin and will continue to do so, I have been making a skin in Photoshop for use by another avatar (not mee!) on OpenLife. It is not easy, believe me! The actual procedure is simple enough but getting the effect just right requires a lot of time.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but if you're looking for skins that are a bit different, like swirling colors, or a brick wall, etc., I picked up some really awesome ones at SL5B and I'm pretty sure they are full perms.

If you're interested in something like that, send me an IM here or in world and I would be happy to send them over to you.

OnRrez has several very cool freebie skins in "off" colors- I have a nice greyish and blueish and greenish ones I got free thru them. Go see them on line. You will need to create an OnRez accoutn and register with OnRez n world.

Enjoy your SL!

bimbozombie, awsome name.

Tod makes some really nice zombie skins and there not overly expencive i would suggest going there if you would like to look more like your names sake...or if you wanna look like captain caveman :)

as for making your own skins, yep, super hard. mermaiddiaries.com has some really good tutorials ( http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2006/11/build.html ), she has one for a blueish/grey skin on there that resembles the female in corpse bride http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2007/09/day-363-creating-goth-avatar-skin-part.html

good luck!

I'm certain that was the first name to go..... :D

To the OP:
"Skins by miaSnow" has great female skins in fancy tones like violet and blue-I have one of the blue ones, they look really different! :) (And I hope you meant "appealing", not "appalling"- then Tod69's place WOULD be the right choice! ;) )
