HELP!! Rezzing and Prim Count Problem

I'm trying to furnish my first home in SL, but have encountered a problem. Sometimes (with the proper group activated) when I rez furniture, etc., it does not appear, however, it's being deducted from my prim count. I've checked the ceilings, etc., but see nothing. Is there some way for me to find out where in the house they are going? At the moment, I have almost 50 prims of lost articles. I'm afraid to continue rezzing for fear this will continue to happen. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you say what that problem is then someone might be able to help you.

One way can be make sure you have the group of the land activated. Turn it on.

If the items were returned to lost and found then they are in your inventory and you don't need to search for them. You have them.

In About Land>Objects is "Selected/Sat Upon" showing a number? If so, does that look like the number of prims that you lost?

I just re-opened this:

periodic failure to rez, attach, and delete in some regions
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-516

In the meantime you'll either have to put in a ticket to get the region restarted (mainland) or contact the estate owner to restart the region (islands)

You can ask the landlord / group owner to return all your items to you. They'll end up in your lost & found folder. Then you can start over again.

Note: When they go into your lost & found folder they might show up as one or only a few objects. SL sort of lumps a few objects together into one when they are sent back from the same sim. But when you rez that object, all of the other stuff will appear too.

I'd be leary of doing it this way if things are already not-right. I ended up losing a couple of items permanently to "object no longer in database" when I tried to clean up 'ghost' prims this way.

Interesting. I have a parcel with an unusually high amount of selected prims, and nothing is there. It drove me nuts today. I guess I'll ask for that region restart.

My apologies -- Try clearing cache and rel-ogging before doing anything more drastic.

I've done this several times to no avail.

I figured. My own ghost prims have survived several cache clears in both 1.19 and 1.20, but it's worth a go at least once.

I think the only thing that will clear ghost prims is a region restart.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that will clear ghost prims is a region restart.

In recent weeks, several people have reported that numerous "regular" prims in the About Land statistics were being relisted in About Land as Selected/Sat Upon. It happened a few times to my parcel and when it did, it also affected the other parcels on the sim the same way. Each time, a restart solved the problem for a day or two. There were no problems losing items.

However, there is also a "ghost prim" situation in which you will lose items. It usually happens when you're trying to rez, take, or delete an item. It then gets listed as Selected/Sat Upon prims, often becomes invisible, though you cannot walk through it. When this happens, unfortunately, you're going to lose the item if it's no-copy. It affected many people last August, and I lost several things.

PLEASE VOTE on this JIRA issue!

Thanks, Beezle. I couldn't vote on it because I did so back in August.

Ramona's thread is one of two I read on this problem occurring yesterday. I also read a blog post describing the same thing. It sounds like this is coming back like it did last August. Therefore, I elevated the JIRA status to Critical.

As bad as the grid has been the past two weeks, if this is any indication, then it's sicker than I thought.

PLEASE VOTE!

And if you've experienced it, please submit a ticket.

Possibly related:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1996

It's hard to tell what is what because both problems are rampant this week.

I've seen that one on my parcel several times the past few weeks, and it made me wonder if it was an indication that the ghost prim issue would once again begin affecting the grid in a major way. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case.

With SVC-1996, numerous prims get re-categorized in About Land>Objects as Selected/Sat upon. Each time it happened on my parcel, it also affected the other parcels on the sim. The number of Selected/Sat upon prims would go into the hundreds. It's resolved with a sim restart. I never noticed any other symptoms and never lost items.

With SVC-516, the ghost prims of non-copyable items will be lost. I lost a house in August 2007 due to that bug. It was "resolved" in August; since that time, there have only been a few reports of this. But now it's back in a big way.

Please vote on SVC-516. If you're affected, please submit a ticket.

I linked them -- when rezing/derezzing/take/delete don't work quite right seems to be what causes the ghost prims to muck up the selected/sat upon.

In reference to the selected/sat upon bug, last week I was able to restore the count to 0 by selecting everything and deselecting them. However, it was only a temporary fix ... the count rises again at arbitrary times. I haven't checked it this week.

I do this now whenever I have a little time, just because it bothers me. However, if the count being off has any causal relationship to ghost prim rezzing (SVC-516), it might be good to keep an eye on it. I doubt that it does, though. I bet they are separate issues, both related to the database problems that have been building over the last few weeks.

They seem to have fixed that part, selecting doesn't put the count back any more :D That's what makes things extra difficult right now, you can't even tell if there are ghost prims unless they are the variety you can trip on.

Oh, fabulous :P Thanks for the heads up!

Sad to say, I'm actually happy that I can't make it inworld enough to build anything. It just sounds like it's such a pain.
