Hi all,
I've already filed a support ticket with Linden Labs. Just wondering if anyone else has ever faced this problem and can offer any suggestions. (My account is a basic (free) account so I'm not sure how far LL can/will help)
I've just logged in after being away from Internet access for a week. I discovered, in the time I was away, SL has somehow deleted my entire friends list, groups list, and ALL my inventory, including LMs, notecards, textures, animations, skin, hair, clothes -- everything!
The funny thing is...
My avatar is wearing clothes. Clothes that I purchased, not the newbie clothes you get when you log into SL for the first time. But my 'clothing' folder is empty. My avatar is also wearing a skin I purchased some time ago, but again my 'skin' folder is empty.
I've already tried clearing cache and logging in again but everything is still the same. I'm convinced the items MUST be there somewhere, or else my avatar could not be wearing them. But I can't get them to appear in the inventory box. I used a different computer to log into SL, and the result was the same.
I am tearing my hair out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, it happens sometimes. Submit a ticket on the support page and they should be able to recover everything for you. Most of the time it takes two or three days and everything is recovered.

try clearing your cache (preferences - network - clear cache) and relogging. do that 2-3 times if needed. it might make a difference. let us know.

Also, try deleting the folder at C:\Documents and Settings\'User Name'\Application Data\SecondLife
Clearing cache doesn't actually remove all of the (potentially problematic) information kept on your hard drive, but deleting this folder will. Chat logs also default to this folder though, so if you haven't set up a different path and want to keep your logs, make sure you move them out before you delete the folder.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

When it comes to missing stuff, LL isn't too helpful. They send you a list of things to try, then close the ticket calling it a FINAL RESOLUTION. Its crap. Its been over two months for me and LL, the vendor, and the creator have done nothing to replace my missing item. I understand its optional for the vendor and the creator to replace it. But it was LL's screw up. They should reimburse me the cost. I would have died holding my breath waiting some time ago.
Thanks LL! NOT!

The tips above are the best steps you can take. After clearing your cache, log in to a low-lag sim, such as Cyclops. Open your inventory window and type something in the inventory search bar. Refrain from any SL actions (moving, IMing, etc.) while it loads. If the loading seems to hang, type a new search term.
Inventory loss is common, but losing your friends and groups lists is not. That may help you get a satisfactory response from LL.
Remember to post some updates to this thread. I hope it'll be good news.

Hi everyone, Everything I've tried so far hasn't worked. Even when I log in from a different computer, nothing changes. Linden Lab's support staff sent me this message yesterday: From: someone We are currently looking into finding a solution for you.
Will get back to you as soon as possible. I wouldn't be so befuddled if my avatar weren't wearing items that I supposedly don't have anymore. That makes me certain that the inventory must be somewhere around... although I can't get it to show up!

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I bought some skins, that subsequently vanished from my inventory. However I was still wearing one of them. When I went into appearance, to the skin tab, it said 'skin not worn'.. that's not even possible, you HAVE to be wearing a skin.!
Those skins were never recovered, even after clearing my cache several times, even re-installing with a new download.
Fortunately the awesome skin maker replaced them all for me (Thanks Lovey !)

More news from Linden Lab... From: someone Greetings Quaintly, Thank you for your continued patience. I am currently unable to find any record of your missing inventory however the fact that you are wearing clothes yet they are not listed in your inventory indicate that there is definately an issue here that needs closer investigation. I am passing this matter to our inventory specialists who may be able to find something I have not. We will keep you informed as to our progress on this issue. Best regards Gavin Linden Lab Support

That's due to texture baking. Essentially, when your avatar wears non-prim clothes, they aren't all considered separate items anymore (because that would require multiple texture downloads). Instead, YOUR client downloads your skin and all your clothes, overlays them all on top of each other, and then silently uploads the result as a "baked texture" which becomes the single texture that actually appears on your avatar. The baked texture doesn't appear in your inventory. That's why you can still see yourself wearing your clothes - they're still baked onto your avatar texture even though the objects are missing from your inventory.

Is that the *hidden* folder you are sometimes asked to delete when SL is borked?
