If I am offline, and not at home, is there anyway to send IM's ect to my friends?

Your only option is to have them go to your registered email address. You can't directly forward them to another resident

If you are willing to use your SL information to log in via a third party, I believe you can send IMs through the Ajaxlife viewer right in your browser. (The URL is a mess of numbers in my browser, but I got there by using Google to search "Ajaxlife".) I think there are other web-based clients or sites that will do the same.

If you have access to your email online, you can reply to an offline IM and it will come through to the other person in-world. It only works for a few days after you get the IM though, because the address changes. Be sure to delete all the reply information, or the other person will get your email address from the quoted text.

I agree that is always a good habit to get into, if for no other reason than the IM looks very messy if all that info is still there.

It is also a good idea to consider getting a seperate gmail account for you avatar and have your IM's forwarded there. You can have the avatar gmail, for example, forwarded to your regular email address so you see them quickly, but reply from the av account just to be sure that, if you forget to delete something, your RL info is never attached to the reply.
