Stop piggybacking and buy your own reliable internet connection.

i would if i could. it was working fine earlier, everything else works have you rebooted? I had that problem for a long time on my vista machine... it would just affect sl though. As if the DNS info got corrupted over time. Since I updated the os and it could have been the viewer too.. haven't had any trouble _____________________

Get a mobile USB modem, ffs. QF goddamn T Chaos, how much good advice will you continue to spurn in order to have a whine on the forums? You have a piggybacked, potentially compromised and non-secure, relatively slow wireless internet connection. What do you really expect? _____________________

Sorry guys. But in some parts of Europe there is a problem with SL and DNS. This has nothing to do with OS. Also tickets has been posted about this isue. Its just a time out on a DNS request. I advise to use an other DNS server.

I keep getting this stupid error "DNS could not resolve the host name." i can resolve this manually, its easy but i cannot find the debug setting to do this is there an easy way to fix this? Yes I got that at times this morning, and for about 2 hours could not log in. The SL web pages do mention some troubles but they say Resolved! Gris Status says OK. But it is not. I have now got in suggust you try again before messing with your connections. |

i get that once a while too. usually fix it when i unplug my modem and my router and replug it. This causes a reload in the router of the DNS table. The PC gets this table from the router. After a crash or a failure with login sl sometimes messes up this table. To avoid this its better to fill in the DNS-server ip in the network properties of the PC instead of the ip from the router. Maybe he could contact his ISP to see if they are having any issu..... If no websites can be seen yes indeed. |

If no websites can be seen yes indeed. It wasn't an entirely serious suggestion. Chaos doesn't actually have an ISP. _____________________

I keep getting this stupid error "DNS could not resolve the host name." i can resolve this manually, its easy but i cannot find the debug setting to do this is there an easy way to fix this? What everyone else has said. This can be the product of a firewall blocking SL, amongst other things. You may well be out of luck if the person you're stealin' bandwidth from's ISP is blockin' it. i get that once a while too. usually fix it when i unplug my modem and my router and replug it. Lately I have been having this issue as well, I'm not on a piggyback.. However, I have at least 5 pc's using the router, wireless.. yeah yeah.. we were wired but someone had a brain fart so here we are... I usually have to reboot modem, then router and it fixes it, rarely but on occasion I have to reboot the vista machine. It is consistantly and frequently occuring after a crash on SL.. reboot reboot reboot.. "sigh" |

I was sitting in my car at the curb there, piggybacking on your home network, and I can't get into the internet. Would you mind rebooting your router? HOMEOWNER: Sic 'im, Fang! FANG: Arf! CHAOS: Why does everybody hate me? _____________________

FANG: Arf! So I was in a hotel with exceptionally brain-damaged connectivity, and through traceroute and a little password guessing, was able to reboot their gateway router. Of course I'm not suggesting anyone try anything like this. Doing so would be Wrong. Very Wrong. _____________________

It's more likely the ISP is blocking HIM. He said he was gettin' elsewhere on the web an stuff, so I assumed it was not dat. Mari _____________________
