So as the land prices are going nuts, I am thinking about right-sizing my land use. I have too many spare prims and don't care too much about views and such; but one of the big inhibitors is taking all my buildings and furniture away with me. Quite a few of the items have been delivered inside one of those "rezzer" things and when I have fiddled about with them, they don't always pack away into inventory that neatly.
Is there a "grab everything inside these co-ordinates and pack it up" type doodad I can use? naturally this applies entirely to things I own...

if you will select a part of what you need to pick up...and the drag your mouse over everything...you should see a yellow box that is dragged around all your objects. All your objects should light up.
Depending on how much you need to pick up..you may "free select" others objects as well.
If this is the case...press shift(while keeping everything selected..and click on the other peoples objects(this should de-select those objects only))
Then..right click all your items ((basically one item..since they're all selected clicking anywhere on everything lit up works)) in selection and choose "take"...they should all disappear and appear in your inventory as a multilinked object under some random name that the game assigns to them..might be object..might be window or wall..who knows.
and when you go to re rezz that multilinked object make sure you have an edit window opened before you rezz it....that way everything will be selected as before upon rezz and you can move it.

in addition to that advise, open the tools menu and enable 'select only my objects'.

Thanks Lana - it's the ifs and buts and radomly-assigned things I was trying to get around, plus the issue that picking things up as you describe can be a real one-try, one-way desctructive process - and the first time you try it is the first time you get to find out if it's gonna work. Ideally, I want a gadget that says "500 objects on this parcel, click "OK" to take them into this nicely named object here"

if the objects are modifiable and copiable then rezz foo them yourself.((tedious process but ive been able to rezz foo a 1700 + prim build approx 150 objects.)) But i'm assuming they're all not. If your objects are copiable...rather than choose "take"..choose "take copy". Atleast that'll give you a few different "versions" of the build in your inventory. ~Lana

I've tried to do the Shift-select-take thing several times on houses and it almost never works correctly for me. There's always a door handle, or a window or a piece of floor left behind.
The doodad you are asking for sounds like a good idea, someone should get on that. LOL
Another option that would be nice is to be able to rez the original box the structure came out of and have it derez the house. But I guess that would mean leaving the scripts in all the root prims after you rez the house which could cause lag.
What would be really nice is if LL would let you link more than 250 prims despite how far apart they are. But I'm sure there's some technical issue at play here that I'm not aware of.
By the way, I stopped by the forum hangout the other day for the first time and no one was there. I was sorely disappointed. But I did meet that grumpy squirrel! lol

That's exactly what I found, Fa: you think you got them all, and you don't. Once you've taken them, you can't undo that, and something gets busted...

the other option is just open your land menu and click 'return'.

From: Nina Stepford the other option is just open your land menu and click 'return'. Another one-way test. How can I know that the various amazingly complicated objects and systems are gonna pack in, in an unpackable format?

2 things: when you take a group of objects into inventory, it gives it the name of whatever was last selected. so if you want the group to be called "house" then after you've drag selected everything, shift click to deselect and reselect the house, then right click and take or take copy, it should take it into your inventory under the correct name. also take a look at the builder's buddy, i use it often, it works wonders. and it has a "done" option, that deletes those scripts you were talking about when you're done positioning it here's the link http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Builders_Buddy
