Is it me or is it the lag monster?

Hi, Newbie here

Been having some trouble, which I'm assuming to be lag related, rather than a software issue. However, yesterday's episode bordered on the psychotic.

It started with me walking through floors, and walls, overshooting things when I was walking, or freezing in place. Lag times in conversations, stuff like that. Standing up after sitting catapults me above the clouds. Some objects not rezzing at all (gray people walking around)
I shut down a few times, either by being logged out by SL while teleporting to another area, or just crashing. New regions took a long time to rez. At one point I even rebooted my system to try to fix this.

But wait, it gets weirder. My friend and I were lounging about on a beach (well, okay, it was Laguna Nude Beach). I clicked on one of the sunbathing script sphere thingies and suddenly found myself below the surface, in total darkness. I could only see my avatar. Only able to IM and move camera controls. My friend said that one of my legs was still sticking out of the sand, but the camera pan made it look like I was about 50 feet (proportionally) below the surface.

For some reason, there were a few objects down there with me. A thing that looked like a wig, with some gray bits of prim stuck to it, was sitting on top of me.
(Keep in mind that at this time I'm reclining and naked). I joked about some hairy monster trying to eat me here in the dark, still trying to figure out a way to get out of there.

Then things got really weird (And and this point you'll suspect I've gone off my meds or something)
When I zoomed the camera to me again, there actually was a monster there with me! I'm not kidding, and I'm pretty sure I'm not delusional. It was lying beneath me (or I was lying on top of it), also facing up, head pointing in the same direction. About twice the size of me. It was bright red, very cartoonish, humanoid shape, with huge yellow claws and teeth.
I was so freaked out that I asked my friend to teleport me out of there. Wish I'd taken a picture of it, but I just wanted to get gone.

I can see how leaving a sim like that could get you mixed up with some random objects. But why that monster, why not a car or a door or tree? Why would it look like I'm lying on it, with all that black space around us? It almost seems like someone did this on purpose, what what are the odds of that?

Can anyone shed some light on a) if the first part of my message is just due to lag or whether I should try re-installing the software and b) what the heck that monster thing was doing below ground.

Sorry if I sound crazy, but it was all very strange

Sounds like typical lag.. and that is the place things go to die ;)

But actually sounds just like the corner of the sim, which is where you often go when sitting on a scripted object and lagging (Same deal as the sky sitting, just lower =P)

And the monster would have been someone's av or a sculpture or something lol.. there are no monsters that just appear in SL on their own

This forum isn't for general discussion; there are many Resident Sites where this discussion is appropriate - Resident Answers is for Resident-to-Resident help. I'll close this thread...

Sorry, I just wanted to post it once and picked the first thread I saw. I'll keep quiet now.
