Can't post using Firefox, but Safari works

This is strange. I've been trying to post all evening, and keep getting file not found. I thought it must be a board problem and was patient. But then I noticed others are posting, so I kept trying and same thing. I get the error whether I'm starting a new thread, or replying.

So I tried using Safari, and no problem. I use Firefox all the time and have never had a problem before.

I'm using Mac OSX (10.4 something), Firefox 3.0.13.

On new reply I go to this page:

http://forums.secondlife.com/newreply.php

And get this error:

Not Found

The requested URL /newreply.php was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2 Server at forums.secondlife.com Port 80

And on new thread:

http://forums.secondlife.com/newthread.php

and same message.

Anyone else?

It might be that you need to set your editing mode to something other than the WYSIWYG mode, one of the two simpler modes.

That's in the User CP (Control Panel), Edit Options. http://forums.secondlife.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

At the bottom.

Welp, that worked! Thank you.

I don't understand that; I've never had a problem before and have never changed the settings. I wonder if Firefox changed or the board software was upgraded.

The board software was certainly not upgraded.

This forum is crippled. It needed to be upgraded a long time ago for security reasons, but LL chose not to do so. Rather than upgrade this forum they are switching to a completely different system, and in the meantime have repeatedly further hobbled this forum with crumby, kludgy modifications designed to deal with the security problems.

We can't have vBcode, we can't use the WYSIWYG editor, we can't used certain word pairs that resemble SQL statements, and we have to put spaces after less than signs.

Strife Onizuka wrote a Greasemonkey script to overcome the VBcode crippling, instructions for which are available in a sticky at the top of the Resident Answers thread listing.

I think we will, if we are lucky, end up with something that looks sort of like a forum but won't work very well, will be slow, and even more prone to problems than this current crippled vBulletin forum is. That's my optimistic view. My pessimistic view is that we will get something called a forum that doesn't look like a forum at all, but rather like a bunch of totally separate threads, and which won't work well, will be slow, and prone to lots of problems.
