Maybe this has been addressed before or is in JIRA, I don't keep up with everything. But today after seeing a number of group members get all pissy because someone asked an actual on-topic group question in group chat and then accuse this person of spamming, it made me wonder why. It seems that SL should have a simple solution like a function to turn off or mute all group chat in your preferences or within the group preferences.

Some people obviously don't want to be bothered by any form of group chat whatsoever and most of the time the results of saying one sentence is followed up by a half dozen or more members telling the person not to spam or threatening to leave the group or actually leaving the group which is more annoying than the OP.

Is it technologically possible for this feature to be added to preferences and if so why hasn't it been since it seems to bother so many people... or is it already there and people just aren't aware of it?

I agree. Sometimes I am concentrating on a build, and I don't want to see group chat. I don't want to have to unjoin just to stop it. :(

This would be a nice logical option to have, and be a great benifit to the community, and be fairly easy to implement.

Therefore LL will never do it.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

perhaps the answer is as simple as this:

If you don't want to get messages from group members, don't join the group.

That simple answer doesn't work though.

Some groups are jsut so vendors can send out updates to customers eaiser, while others are jsut groups for rental land. No real reason to have voice chat IMs for the groups, but no way to turn them off.

And as mentioned above, there are times when you jsut don't want to hear the chat, but don't mind any other time.
