I've been keeping logs for the last week and I have crashed on average 13 times a day. This doesn't count lockups that last for minutes at a time. It does count total freezes and region reboots. Is this normal? Is there a link somewhere that points out some ways to keep the game running a bit more stable? I do alot of scripting and this is killing my productivity. I'm never sure if my next SAVE and compile is gonna go. Signed - Connectionless in Seatle

Which version of the viewer are you using? What is your OS and system specs? I seldom crash - sometimes when I TP after TPing and camming around a lot. The only time I sort of freeze up is when I open a new Inventory window - figured that was just cuz my inventory is over 12k now.

Ok, i have a similar issue.. i crash (or my client disconnects) every 30 to 40 mins. Sometimes more often and sometimes less.
I am firmly convinced that this is a network issue. I just got back from a trip where I logged in from a hotel in Singapore... not a single crash in hours of play. I replaced my cable modem and no real difference. Next it will be my Gateway/Router.
Good luck.

That's higher than I'd expect, unless you're on 24/7. Even then it'd be a bit much. There are a few tried and tested ways to improve stability. >>> The first thing to try is the usual voodoo of clearing cache, reinstalling clients, resetting routers & hubs etc. This can work wonders. >>> Is your connection to your ISP stable? Are you crashing because you are losing your connection? >>> Is your computer up to minimum spec for SL? http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php>>> Is your PC capable of running SL reliably? Does it crash with other software? Have you enough RAM? I got better stability after upgrading from 1-2Gb, but it used to run on an old machine with 500Mb. Is any other part of your PC failing (HD, PSU, cooling system)? >>> Are you using a reliable client/viewer? Windlight and some of the more experimental clients are more prone to crashes. The 3rd party Nicholaz client (google the name) gives me more reliability, but hasn't been updated recently. >>> Is SL itself letting you down? Did other people in the same sim have problems at the same time you did?

lately (over the last few months) SL has not been crashing for me like it used to the crashes I experience is due to my laptop not SL

I might crash once in 5 or 6 hours....on a bad day. Some days no crashes at all. Could it be your system not SL?

I'm using a very new system with 2 gigs of RAM and a 256MB high end nvidia card. When I crash or lock up, my internet is still connected and I can run other games perfectly without crashes (Eve, Everquest 2, etc.) It seems the more scripting/compiling/saving I am doing in a session the more likely to crash. I've taken to logging out and back on every 30 minutes and even then, I still get crashes.

you may also want to check your settings in sl
like cache size draw distance turn particles off
things like that will help reduce lag alot
but if you are working with scripts constantly and alot of them maybe clearing cache and reloggin every other hour or so might help

The problem is something with the 1.19.0 and 1.19.1 viewer. i lost my old sl install. so i must install a new one. since then i cannot open inventor and search = crash. Now its difficult go or do something, because i can better not touch inventory. And my inventory is not loaded into cache.
I use the windlight viewer under linux. but its never been so unstable as this time. never had any problem with the viewer, maby sometimes a crash. I think more that its something with the updates from LL.

I was having this same problem of always crashing. It got to the point I had to stay on one side of my land because if I went to the other side I would crash right away. I tried everything and nothing worked. I had Windows re-installed and ever since then I've not crashed. This was about 3-4 months ago.

I crash very rarely since I started using Nicholaz viewers. I'm using the latest BE-V and it's as stable as ever, but even the 18.5 Linden Viewer seemed pretty stable to me, I just can't stand the comm box. I do notice more lag in places where it wasn't a problem, andrezzing is slower as well, but I guess some of that can be attributed to my video card being bare minimum.

It does happen. On one of my computers, if I use the release candidate viewer, I can count on five or ten crashes in a day. On the other hand, yesterday I used another computer, with the standard viewer installed...and did not crash ONCE.
There are so many variables. Your computer, your video card, your drivers, what other software is installed, what background processes are running, your power supply and cooling...
It's not an easy problem to solve. But what I am saying is that it is POSSIBLE to have a stable SL...at least on your end, we won't talk about LL's servers.
My Resident Geek spends a lot of time messing with our computers, checking them for viruses and spyware, cleaning them up and streamlining and tweaking. Sometimes it produces dramatic improvements. More often, it produces a grouchy Geek who needs some Excedrin and a nice massage.

The latest Windlight RC has been nice to me. I don't even have that memory leak that everyone is talking about. I'm even extra-amazed at how stable TPs have been this past week. But I'm not usually on for more than 6 hours at a time. Gotta take a snack break sometimes. (^_^)y
