Hi Everyone,

I've heard it's possible to IM someone while offline. I would love to try this feature, as it would allow me to communicate with SL friends while at work or any computer without SL installed.

How is this done, if possible? Also, is there a risk of the receiver learning the sender's true identity?

I receive IM's and messages to the email I have on my account but I don't think I can answer back...People who are important to me have my msn messenger name so they can get in contact with me during working hours.

You can use http://www.zonkster.com/ to send messages. If they answer and you have email forwarding on, you can then reply to the emails and it will reach them in-world. Otherwise, you can use a lightweight client like SLeek which logs you into the grid, but doesn't have the graphics component.

I recieve IM's and group notices in my email when I am offline. It's a setting in your profile on the second life webpages. I reply to the messages by email, and they go back as IM's in SL. Use an email address with your av's name, and you don't have to worry about identity... i.e. [email=Danielleharrop@gmail.com]Danielleharrop@gmail.com[/email]

If someone in-worlds IMs you and it gets forwarded to your email then yes, you can reply to it and it will be delivered as an in-world IM to that person.

The email address stays active for five days, after that it is unusable and an email from that user would use a different email "From" address
