Hi,
I want to turn on auto return in my sim but I have loads of objects here from other avatars that I wish to keep in place. If these other avatars are in the same group as me will their objects get auto-returned or not? If they do then is there any way for me to turn on auto-return without losing objects that are not owned by me?
Many Thanks,
John

I haven't had group-owned land in awhile, but I'm pretty sure if the land is group-owned, those whose items you wish to remain are in said group, you can check the "build" and "object entry" boxes for group members only in the land window (click the black line up top of your screen when on the land in question).
That way nobody else can build anything on your land.
If you wish to leave build on and object entry on for all residents, I'm relatively sure that group members on group owned land (same group, obviously) won't be affected by auto return.
You might want to go to your group page and see if there are any relevant check-boxes to allow building only on group land for members.
Another thing to keep in mind regarding this would be that if your group is published and open to join (anyone) you may end up with "allowed" builds/rezzing/trash on your land just by virtue of the fact that folks joined then went to your land to build/rezz.
Re-reading this , I'm not sure it makes much sense, but I am still only on coffee #1!

The objects *must* be "set to group" if you don't want them to be returned. This means that people building on the land have to have the right group title active while they are building *or* after they have rezzed an object they need to edit it, and on the general tab, change the group setting to the correct group.
Note - this is not deeding to group - this is just setting to group.
Autoreturn will return anything on the land which has the wrong group setting, regardless of who owns it. I got 'bit' by this a while back.
Before turning on the autoreturn, check under the About Land, Objects. You'll see three sets of numbers, objects owned by land owner, objects set to group, and other objects. The owner one will be anything deeded to group (assuming the land is already group owned.) The 'set to group' objects will not be returned. anything listed under 'other' will be subject to auto return.

Thanks Atashi and Deandra,
We now face quite a big problem. We have about 12000 prims on the island that are owned by others that we don't want to disappear when auto return is switched on. Do we have to get all the creators/owners to set the group for each object? Is there really no other way that we can ensure these objects stay put?
How do you set the group that the region belongs to anyway? I can't seem to find this setting in About Land or Region/Estate?
Thanks in advance,
John

John To set land to a group: Right-click on your land and select About Land. Right below the owner's name is a place for the land's Group, and a button marked "Set". Click "Set", and it will default to the group tag you are wearing, while giving you a list of every group you are in. (Obviously this can only be altered by the land owner). Select the group and that land is now "set" to that group. For auto-return, the land only needs to be set, and not deeded, to the group. But the owners of every last prim on the parcel (other than the owner of the parcel themselves) MUST set those prims to the same group, or auto-return will return them. Yes, that means you MUST track down each person who owns items on your land, and they must change the group tag for the items, or auto-return will return them when you turn it on.
