I accidentally put something in the trash and deleted it and I'm so depressed. I feel so helpless and worse yet it was a part of my avatar, so a distinct look was gone down the drain.

there are backups of the asset servers done periodically, but I've only heard of a restore in the case of a large portion of inventory being lost.
