Hello,
I would be glad if someone explained to me which is the difference between the "Allow anyone to copy" and the "Next owner can: Copy" options in the General tab/properties of an object.
Thanks in advance.

A rather easy question, though not for me! |

Anyone that walks into a room can copy the object, e.g., linden trees.
Next owner permission strictly pertains to the next owner. _____________________

"Allow anyone to copy" means that you're setting out a freebie. If you've ever "taken a copy" of an object using your pie menu upon right click, this is what you're using. "Allow next owner to copy" means that you can set the item for sale, either as a freebie for L$0 (then they'd buy it for L$0, and you'd see it in your transaction history) or as a regular item. The buyer can then copy it multiple times WITHIN his Inventory, and do whatever with it.

Thanks for your answers. This nakes sense... in general!
But my problem is this: I want to make available some notecards through a "book" object with a giver script (with menu). If I select in the notecard's properties the "Allow anyone to copy", which seems to be the most apropriate, others cannot actually take the notecard. Instead the are... frightened by a message saying "You are not allowed to view this note"!!! Any ideas?! |

have the book give them the notecard when they touch the book
(which I think, by your post, this is what you are already doing) then make sure the notecard has the proper permissions to allow them to be able to view it The allow anyone to copy is not what is making it so they can not view it, the next owner permissions are what determines that I think it needs to be copy to be able to see it (I know I have gotten no mod no transfer notecards that I can read, so must be copy) _____________________
