Just this morning, out of sheer idle curiousity, I typed my name "Terry Washington" ,into a search engine at Facebook and was surprised at the number of replies that came back(almost 500- and these were NOT family members and relatives but complete strangers to me!).

They say everybody has either a namesake or somoene with an identical physical resemblance to you,but I was flabbergasted by my discovery.

I typed "Sarah Silverman" and "Drew Barrymore";(the latter being my favourite film star incidentally) and equally suprised by the results.

This ever happen to other SL residents?

Maybe a bit off-topic, but I do occasionally google my SL name when I'm bored and there are a few "real" Kitty Barnetts out there.

When I picked my name I never really thought about the fact that there might be people who have it as their RL name, nor that my avie's name would be all over Google.

Which also leaves me wondering if we're sometimes an embarassment to our RL namesakes :p. Especially when your name is unique enough to not have multiple RL people turn up in the search results.

I can imagine someone applying for a job, having their name googled - which seems to routinely happen these days - and most of it checks out as the person applying but then there's this SL avie with the same name that gets up to all kinds of explicit things. Maybe they'll have heard of "Second Life", but I'm wondering if they'd realize that our names are all fictious .

There does not appear to be a RL Eli Schlegal... or... more likely.. any RL Eli Schlegals are ammish fellows that have no prescence on the internet.
My RL name is somewhat uncommon, however when I googled it a long time ago I found out I have a famous name sake. He was a "muppet wrangler" (yes that's a real profession) and he worked for Jim Henson.

If anyone on Earth has my name then they obviously rule!! Seriously I never thought about whether or not someone in RL would have my SL name...

I'm gonna have a wee look now...

Nah, no-one.

Funnily enough my great-great-great grandfather's first name was Steel. Not made up. True.

What a world eh....

There are plenty of Marianne McCann's in first life, though I've actually had more people think I'm somehow a tribute/parody/whatever of Madeline McCann. I predate her disappearance by more than a year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_McCann

As to my RL name, it's fairly common, but I am the first several hits on that name.

My real name is unusual to most ppl, but is not-so-uncommon among people of Scottish descent, and if you try to google *me* you have to get through about a dozen others. One is a female CEO, another is a doctor, one is a drummer in an all-girl band, and my favorite is a writer.

I've gotten a few compliments on pieces she's written, and once I was invited to a seminar by mistake (it was for a namesake). It was a topic of interest to me, so I went and got all sorts of goodies, but was pestered for years after by salespeople.

I am the only one in RL with my complete name, but there are about 60 people who share my last name.

Googled my SL name and I seem to have that to myself also.

There are fewer than 1,527 people in the U.S. with the first name Lexxi.

There are fewer than 336 people in the U.S. with the last name Gynoid.

There are 1 or fewer people in the U.S. named Lexxi Gynoid.

Lots of people don't realise Desmond Shang is a nom de virtuel.

If anyone will find themselves believing that Caledon is a real country we are SO sending an ambassador in top hat and tails, with official looking stuff.

With any luck we'll score some silverware from a free state dinner...

Only one other person in Google search has my real name. When I first came to SL I was the only Jig. And I think I am the "Last of the Chippewas".

My RL name is so common as to be almost ridiculous. 12015 of 'me' in the US alone, and a few famous ones I know of before (including 2 *different* Olympic medallists).

Kelli May is far better, only 28 in the US. And the 6th hit on Google for the name is actually me!

I just googled myself and it's all SL-related stuff..

I did see a google ad on the side that said "Don't Buy Meade". Not sure if that counts 'cause I ain't for sale! It was right under the "Meade Sale" ad.

Or is yam derogatory? How about potato?

My real name... there's others with my real name on the Internets, some of whom seem to have more interesting lives than me. I'll have to see about stealing their lives some time.

Only one "Argent Stonecutter" that I can find though.

If my account got locked out and I contact LL for help, one of the first questions they will ask me, is what is my real name. The reason for this being you used it to sign up. That's the point i was trying to get across....

Now if only he would tell me his birth date...
