How do ya fix inventory that won't rez???

Over the last month or so I lost the ability to rez three different no-copy prim clothing items (two different makers). I managed to replace two of them by the gracious and rapid customer support of the maker, but the third the maker didn't reply to my request for help. I thought that was all I had lost... I was wrong.

I discovered today that the original box for my wolf avatar, purchased a year ago, can't be rezzed. This is my primary avatar. I can see it in my inventory, but when I try to rez it, nothing appears in-world, and the inventory listing for the box pops to the top of the date-sorted folder, and thinks I just acquired it! If I log off and log back on again, the box re-appears in its correct sorted location in my inventory, but still will not rez. And other things rez just fine. Fortunately the fully-adjusted folder for my avatar still works, and I was able to make a backup copy of that folder. But without the original set, I have no way to restore any of the optional parts I didn't choose to use in my daily form, like the lower leg prims, or the male shape, or the unscripted version of the head.

In each case, I can see the thing in inventory, but it silently fails to rez. I've verified it happens on completely diferent computers, so it can't be anything client-side. And I *have* tried completely uninstalling and re-installing SL, and even tried completely deleting all preference files so I went back to "newbie" status as far as all my preference settings and dialog messages were concerned. Didn't help at all.

Aside from contacting the maker of my avatar for a replacement copy (which I have started trying to do), is there anything else that a Basic member can do? "Inventory that won't rez" isn't a catagory that Basic mebers can submit a support ticket for. And for that matter, the Lindens don't seem willing to even help a Premium member with any inventory loss issues.

:(

Have you tried rezzing it in a different sim?

If so, try it once more and write down the date/time and where you are (slurl) then file a support ticket. Give them the exact name of the object and the date/time/location details.

edit: err.. right. basic account.. you said that. sorry.. I'm a bit slow today.

Which version of the viewer are you using? Trying a different one, especially if you're on test software like the 1.20 RC, will occasionally 'fix' the issue if it's a communication bug in whatever you're currently using.

Tried goin' to another sim, a nearly empty class 5. No better luck there. Can't rez it, and can't wear the box either.

Jus' tried going to Linden Village, and wasn't a single Linden there ta be found.

Ah well. The merchant I got m' wolf from has a good rep for customer service, an' at worst, I can afford to just buy the avatar all over again. I'd rather not spend a thousand L$ or so to fix something that is wrong with LL's asset database, but if that is what it takes...

How long since it first failed to rez?

If it's been less than a day or 3, you might want to give it a little more time. Asset errors trigger (in theory) a recovery process that automatically tries to get the object back.

Using the 1.19 official client, on a very fast, hardwired cable modem connection. The only things that won't rez so far are the box for the avatar, and a couple loose lower leg prim parts that I tried to recover from the trash.

With the skirts I mentioned earlier, I tried for several weeks and never got them to work again.

For the avatar box, today was the first try at rezzing it in close to a year. Y'see, when I set up this avatar, I bought the wolf I wanted ta be, configured and adjusted her, an' didn't mess with it since then. I've jus' been wearin' the folder fiull of parts that I unpacked on that very first day, an' addin' differen't clothes as needed. I only have two forms as Meridith - the anthro wolf, an' a Human female form that I made 'cause I was bored one day, an' wanted ta' try to make a form that looked more like meself. Almost never use the Human form, unless I need ta go somewhere really laggy.

Thing is, I'm not even gettin' an error message when this fails. So I don' think it can trigger the asset recovery process, because the client isn't even acknowledgin' that it failed ta do what I asked it ta do.

I have exactly this problem with a couple of no-copy bookcases. I did all the usual just in case (clear cache, try in different sims, pass them to somebody else to see if they could rez them -- no, the got the same "bounce" behavior -- and so on). Nothing worked.

I got LiveHelp. A Linden came, I passed the objects to her, she couldn't rez them either. She had me put in a ticket about it, which she then escalated to the tech types. They said it was an interesting behavior they'd not seen before and that, whatever the final answer was, they'd let me know what the problem was, even if it couldn't be solved.

Well, a couple of days ago, I got a "resolved" email that the ticket had been closed. The resolution? A copy of the knowledge base article telling me to clear cache, etc.

[sigh]

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

I'm having the same problem, I have things in my inventory that wont rez, pass them to someone, they cant get them to rez either. Have a lot of clothes that I don't often wear that wont rez when I wear them. Its frustrating, cleared cache all that. Nothing fixes the problem.

Did anyone start a JIRA issue?

There is a JIRA issue -- SVC-2129

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2129

This problem has been going on for several weeks and has affected many avatars. I have submitted a ticket and gotten no response, and the JIRA issue has not been picked up by the Lindens. Please go to it and vote for it. This is a critical issue that needs to be dealt with. I estimate that 1/4 of the objects in my inventory are affected.

I just spent some time in Live Chat working with a helpful Linden on this issue. No resolution, but I think I at least got someone's attention and got my support ticket bumped to a higher priority. I really hope they can resolve this soon, even if that means finding out that all these objects are permanently unusable. It's going to take a lot of work to go through my whole inventory identifying the bad objects and trying to replace the more valuable ones. I don't want to start that process until I am sure that the objects really are unfixable. :(

I hope you get some useful response, Almadi; I thought I had when the ticket I put in after talking to a helpful Linden got escalated to the tech guys and I was promised that I'd be told what they found. What I got was a simple canned response of things I'd already done.

Well, the Lindens have been no help at all so far, but Jakkal Dingo was kind enough to replace my damaged avatar box straight away, an' fer no charge. Great customer service! LL could learn a thing or two from such fine merchants...

Since m' own inventory's pretty small, I'll just go through everything else an' make sure it'll all rez, and will trash and replace the stuff that won't. Seems faster an' less hassle than waiting in hopes LL will bother to help us.

"Pretty small" is not how I would describe my inventory -- but I suppose it will be a lot smaller by the time I've finished dealing with this issue. GRRRRRR!!
