I just got premium tonight and am wondering how do I get the land that comes with it? I'm very confused on how to get it.
Thanks for any help,

It's been a long time since I got my First Land, but here's my recollection for now, until someone can confirm or correct.
There used to be 512 sqm parcels available to premium members, either for free or for a nominal amount. That stopped a long time ago. But you can still buy a 512 and not pay tier on it. To do that, you first go to your account here on the website and set your tier at 512. It will show you as owing no tier when you do. Then you buy the land. It must be Mainland. |

What you get is the ability to own 512 sq.m. of Mainlanland without paying tier.
You still have to buy the land. When searching for land in Search, be aware of the 'Type' option. You should be looking for Mainland if you want to take advantage of the free 512 of tier. |

When you find a plot you like - check carefully to be sure it's not got something nasty in the middle like a 16m square that is covered up by a building but is retained by the seller and not part of the plot. A nice flatish rectangle is best.
Land right next to a Linden highway or other protected Linden land is generally worth more than ordinary land as it means you're much less likely to get blocked in on all sides. _____________________

As I posted to you on the other thread where you asked the same:
Go inworld. Search>Land sales. Select the "For Sale: Mainland" tab. Then start browsing for land. Be advised that First Land for L$512 is no longer available and you will have to pay around L$5000 for a plot in an attractive area. Also you will be charged monthly tier for anything you buy over 512 meters. To see how much land you can get at the various tier levels, go here: https://secure-web2.secondlife.com/account/landfees.php _____________________

Its really a form of false advertising that THEY who shall not be named havent taken the First land thing out of the recruiting literature. (if they havent) Even when it was supposedly active, getting any was about like your odds of winning the lottery; especially after landbots got introduced into the mix.

The mainland 512m no tier is still a nice benefit of being a premium member, that and the $L300 a week stipend. And you get the entitlement of looking down your nose and bitch about every little thing.

When looking for land to buy I have found it easier to look for it on the map than in the search, which to me is kind of confusing. On the map you click the "shoe land for sale" option on and all the land that is for sale shows up yellow. Then look for a yellow square in a place that looks like it might be nice and teleport there.
Once on the land for sale right click on the ground to get information about it. It's OK to choose "buy land" from the pie menu. This will bring up most of the info you need about what will happen if you buy it - the price how it will affect your tier payments and so on; it won't complete any sale. If you have a couple of hours to spend tping from plot to plot checking prices and neighborhoods you can get a good idea of what the going prices are and what kind of place you'd like to have. Don't rush into anything. Before you start pull down the "view" menu at the top of the page and check "property lines" so you can see exactly what land is what. _____________________

Every time there's a thread like this I'm reminded how lucky I am that I got a GREAT place as my first land (right before they discontinued it).

Mine was on the border of a big piece of protected land and 2 plots from a Linden beach. The neighborhood has just gotten nicer ever since and last year my next door neighbor who wanted to expand traded me straight across for a 512 plot right on the beach and one plot away from the other protected land. I love it.

Even when I got mine I had to check many times a day for several weeks before I found any available and then there were only three plots. It was good I moved quickly to buy the one I wanted because the other two were gone in under 10 minutes.

I wish I knew how to reach people looking for 512 parcels to use their premium benefit. I am currently selling a house in Samodiva that makes great use of a 512 parcel, but only uses 4 prims! What many new-to-premium members don't realize is that you only get to use 117 prims on a 512 parcel.
If you're interested Gay, check out Samodiva (72,176). It's the house built into the hillside. Very unique! |
