A friend of mine got this product and when she set it down on the ground it immediately asked her to give it debit permissions. There is nothing in the instructions or help notes to indicate that this would happen or why this is necessary and of course she did not grant permissions since she does not know the creator from a hole in the wall. This product seems to be in lots of night clubs and event areas though and it has 29 ratings for an overall rating of 4 and a half stars. Can anyone clarify whether the debit permission request on this item is a legitimate part of its function and why it would be necessary for it to have debit permissions from the owner? For those of you that don't know what this object is it is a ball that asks trivial pursuit questions and gives out a set amount of money to the first person who gives the correct answer.

An object can't really "give" a cash prize, since objects don't have a $linden balance - in actuality the money comes from the owner of the object. So yes, the owner would need to grant debit permissions so that the prize can be handed out.

But still be very careful, kudos for asking first and doing your homework on the object in question. Sounds like it's fine based on the user feedback, but it's awfully hard to know for sure.

Hmm but according to the description of the item on SLExchange, the hosts pay the prize money to the Trivia Ball before a trivia contest begins and the host does not have to be the owner. If that is true then why does it need to take money from the owner to payout the prizes for correct answers?

Is this how Sploder balls work as well?

OK, but the same thing still stands: an object cannot have lindens, only people can have lindens. The owner MUST pay out the prize, and any lindens paid to the Trivia Ball MUST go to the owner.

- host pays ball L$100 (this really goes to the owner)
- game is played
- L$100 worth of prizes are given out (this really comes out of the owner's pocket)

So the host is paying in advance the costs associated with one game, which makes sense (the owner shouldn't bear the costs of a bunch of trivia games he didn't start or participate in), but all the transactions back and forth go to and from the owner.

Gah, I hope that makes sense. I'm not sure I'm explaining it well.
