This was a bit creepy. Someone tells me that they've been following avatars around invisibly, and listening in on their (must be open chat) conversations. As though they were present, mobile, and invisible. Can this be done? Eek - eek...

There are various names for it (cloaking device, etc.) but I believe all it really involves is attaching an invisiprim large enough to hide your av and name to your av. But just like the invisiprims used on most women's sl high heels, there are some abnormalities in what you see through it that can be spotted. I can think of a couple of other possible ways, but those would still leave the av name tag hovering over it. (and you would still show up on an avatar radar as being there in all cases) |

Kevyn is right and that's the most common method however theres also use of invisible bots that follow an AV around and will report conversations he/she has back to the attacker. It would be hard to know if you were bugged unless you had "Highlight transparencies" turned on.

PS: abnormalities wouldn't be a problem. |

My AV uses a lot of transparencies to hide the original AV shape--this way the android bits are all that you see. If this is done to the entire AV, you will be entirely see-through. That is, unless there is an alpha channel behind you, then you will be seen ala' the Predator.

Yep, that was one of the alternate ways I referenced above, yet this still leaves the name tag floating, so it is relatively easy to spot if close enough for listening to chat. Whereas the invisiprim can be sized to hide it. |

Hey, that's cool.... where can I get one of those cloaking devices? PS: abnormalities wouldn't be a problem. They are parts of some weapons devices as well as available separately. I can't recommend a specific one, you can search on slexchange for hits. An free alternative would be to get ahold of the invisiprim script and put it in a prim of your own making. http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=Invisiprim http://moriash.blogspot.com/2006/08/invisiprim.html |

had a recent experiance regardign those things. seems the "listener" places the item in a few color change balls, and was able to listen to every conversation in the radius of them. they were undetectable and the person they were used on was only aware of them when the person who placed them told them about it. they did come and get them, but even they had a hard time finding them.
be aware if you use these things they are a violation of the ToS, and can get you a ban if not a warning. _____________________

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

You don't have to make your av invisible and follow folks around to eavesdrop.
There are nearly invisible "chat bugs" you can buy that'll follow someone around and relay everything said in open chat to their owner. There are also detectors available to find out if you've been bugged. |

Aren't those against the TOS or something? -Atashi Yes. Or at least, they can easily be used in ways that are against the TOS. But the items themselves are available on the open market. Would I use one? Heck no!!! But I'm aware of their existence, and I do have a detector device. |

I've had it and seen it on a number of occasions that if you cancel a TP, or have a bad TP that your AV is truly invisible..ie- no name tag, no distorting of alpha textures, nothing...
Also I've seen it where a passenger in my boat got disconnected from his visible AV, and was visible to himself and fully functional in another sim (including IM, payment, animate, inspect, touch, all of that) but was invisible to everyone else, but had collision (his presence was solid). Happened because of a bad sim crossing. I could cancel the IM with him, and then reopen it by clicking on his AV body that was sitting in my passenger seat, and then talk to him while his Agent was many sims away. He was having a bit of fun like that.. I guess others couldn't even get his name by holding the cursor over him, but he could fully function. The instant he reentered the sim his body was in, his body flew out of my boat at light speed and met his agent and all was normal. |

I developed a Cloak, it's a Tiny prim that sits in the centre of my body. When i give the command word (On a silent Channel) All the Attachments i am wearing go 100% Transparent, and the Tiny Prim expands enveloping my Entire body, cobering anything i Couldn't script to go Transparent. It's extremely Effective, But the Hovering Name tag over my head is still Visible. It's highly effective But some objects behind me will go Transparent as i pass Over them so i have to choose my positioning carefully. In Flight i am Undetectable.
I don't use it much at all, i created it only as a mental exercise. I thought it would go well with a "Preditor" Avie, But i never got around to making it. Angel. |

I got harassed by an invisible avatar once. At the time I knew how to show invisible objects and nothing came up. I looked all around me and up in the sky and saw no one but he was within range to use normal chat with me.
I've also heard there is a method to push your avatar into the ground and be invisible. Someone showed this to me once but I don't recall if her title still showed. _____________________

I've been able to push myself into the ground by sitting on a non-physical vehicle. But I wasn't able to go too deeply. |

There's a ball the size of a baseball you can get into and become invisible and you can go anywhere without being seen. I used to buy all these gadgets and have a ton of them but I never really had time to use them.

There is a highly effective Combat system out there (I won't name because the Creator isn't paying me an Advertising Premium) that , For a form of Invisibility Pushes the Avie Far Under ground, and has Only a Small drifting Robot Visible above ground, This was some months ago i saw this, and the Creator was working on having the bot Also Invisible as well (I reccomended a 100% transparent Micro-Prim, Even if you highlight Transparent, the Bot would be so small it would be almost impossible to see). Your Name tag would not show at any time, because Nothing of you would show above ground, you would be thirty or forty meters away from the bot, but be able to act through it as if you were right on the spot.
