Hey all,
I am still pretty new to Second Life and learning my way around. I did pay for a month of premium membership. However I am considering downgrading back to a free account.
How will this interact with the new policy about adult content? Linden Labs has proof of my age through my credit card. Will I still need to go through age verification?
I guess what worries is that I imagine there are going to interesting stuff to see that are not centered around sex on the new continent. I don't like the idea of not be able to go places in SL. But paid membership really isn't doing much for me and I don't want to go through age verification if i don't have to.
Does anyone know anything about this?

You don't have to remove your payment info if you drop the premium subscription, so don't worry about that. The payment info used for premium subscriptions is the same one they use for L$ purchases and so on, so you should be okay.

Does anyone know anything about this? You can also age verify using a US drivers license. Since I'm already in the National Drivers License Registry (don't ask me why that's what I did. You don't need cc information on file at all in that case, but it doesn't hurt to leave the card on file. J.

Creditcard isn't a proof of your age. you don't have to be over 18 to get a creditcard

Yet Linden Lab has stated that for the new Adults Only continent and flagged private sims, that having payment info on file will be just as acceptable as having passed the Aristotle age verification test. And the Aristotle verification is also not "proof of age" since anyone can enter anyone else's data and get "Verified". I heard a few people used the validition info for Elvis Prestley, and got accepted...

As screwed up as that verification seems to be, it is a wonder more people aren't using dead people's SS numbers. They can easily be found on the web, Richard Nixon's is very public, but you can find anyone's if you have a little basic info that can be found on Wiki.

Downgrade your membership if you do not feel the premium is worth it. For now, until they get things figured out, you could even remove your payment info, however if you wish to buy L$ from within the game or the web pages you will need the payment info. You can also buy L$ from XStreet, which is now owned by LL so there is another place you could let them store your payment info. Totally skip the Age Verification process cuz it sucks and is not going to be needed. When they finally figure all this Adult Content stuff out, then putting payment info on file with LL will be enough to flag you as Adult.

Does anyone know anything about this? Dont' downgrade if all you did was pay for one month (instead of a quater or a year). Just don't pay for another month (I think they will try to auto charge, so downgrade to basic the day before). You paid for the stipend lindens. So get them until the end of the month. Then downgrade. You do not get your money back if you downgrade. Or the stipend lindens.

At first blush it looks like if you downgrade to basic the downgrade occurs at the end of your prepaid Premium period. I prepaid for a year for my original account and then tried to down grade it after that account sold our land to me at "Jackie Version 2" (this account). Looking at the first account this morning it said "Downgrade in Progress" or something like that with an effective date of 3/20/2010, with would be a year from my one year premium upgrade. I see nothing about a refund there. If you're month to month then Lexxi's comments are the right way to go.

You need to have Payment Info Used to have a Premium account. You do not need a Premium account to have Payment Info Used.

Definitely use the month you paid for...but do NOT let the payment simply lapse. Downgrade your account the day before it's due. The reason is that LL will DELETE a delinquent Premium account, while an unused Basic account can live nearly forever.
