I have just realised that Lindens are charging for the first 512 sq meters of land - this could be old news - call me slow.

I pay fees, I create stuff and distribute it as freebies - this is just greed - over the next couple of weeks I'm returning or selling my land and getting out.

There are alternatives now and SL is getting too expensive and not giving value for money.

So Long everyone and thanks for all the fish

Wait, what, they are now charging tier for the first 512m of land you own? When did this happen? I only own a 512m parcel and I've heard nothing about this.

/me points at http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php

From: LL
Premium accounts are granted a 512 sqm bonus lease before land use fees are applied. The chart below shows the fees for all land you hold or tier you donate beyond the 512 sqm bonus.

You sure you're being charged for that first 512, Tarak?

The first 512 s.m. are supposed to be included in the premium account fee.

Is that not what is happening?

Did you maybe donate some tier to a group by mistake?

Or did they make a billing mistake?

I just checked and as far I can see the 512 sq.m. are still free.

OK! OK! enough already!

Red Face here - I was reading the following:

Land Holdings
Allowed holdings: 2,560 square meters
Current holdings: 0 square meters
Available for purchase: 2,048 square meters
Peak square meter usage: 1,024 square meters
Total monthly cost: USD 5.00

On checking my Account Statement I see the funds have not been removed -

As for the fish - it is all in the bait used - but still so long - enjoy you SL everyone

it's the new chart that's confusing, at the top it used to say 512m - free, but now it appears to say 512m - US$5, unless you read above.

Or you go to your account and then to land use fees. Then it shows you exactly how it calculates the price. Apparently, LL has made that one list for those who are thinking about buying land, not those of us how already own land.

Actually the column title says:

Additional Land
(over 512 sqm)

At any rate, you're only being charged for your PEAK square meter usage, which means that sometime during the month you actually did own 1024. You'll be charged for it even if you don't currently own it; and you're being charged $5, which is the correct amount for 1024.

At then end of your billing cycle you will be charged that 5 usd for the 1024 peek usage. You will also have to go back to that page post billing, and lower your monthly payment back to 0.
Or it will continue to bill at 5 usd a month until you tier down to 0. =)

Often over looked.

Sorry Alisha,

This is not true, it does not matter what your tier level is, you are only charged the maximum amount of land you owned in the last 30 days.

You do not need to tier down as it is called, you do not need to do anything, if you don't own it you do not pay for it.

I have just debated this in another thread 2 days ago;

Doesn't the selected tier level really just indicated at what level you will get that 'tier up' confirmation box when you buy land - thought I heard that somewhere? So if you currently own 1024, you are billed for the 512 over the base 512, but if you have your tier level set to 8192, you can keep buying up to the 8192 amount before you will get the box that tells you that you must approve a higher tier level.

Correct

You can set your tier level at 65536sqm (a full sim), all this means is that you are prepared to pay upto that tier level as previously explained, you will not recieve any warning as such as long as you buy upto that amount. If you exceed that amount you will be told you are going to be automatically upgraded to the next tier level to cover the amount of land owned.

If you do not own any land and your tier level is at 65536sqm (U$195.00 per month) you will pay nothing.

If however you buy 2048sqm of land in that 30 day billing period and your Tier Level is 65536sqm (U$195.00 per month) you will be have to pay U$15.00.

The reason for this is that the maximum amount of land owned in the previous 30 days or what will be shown on your account page, 'Peak Usage' will be charged accordingly as per 'Mainland Pricing and Fees' page.
http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php

There is no reason to tier down unless you would like a reminder that informs you of further increases to your tier level.
