I'm trying to make a sign that is just the text with a transparent background. I've done it before but I'm having a total brain block and I must be doing something wrong because I keep making the text transparent and the background coloured.

Could anyone point me to a tutorial that'll jog my memory? Thanks!

The Alpha Transparency sticky in the Texturing Tips forum.

But in a nutshell: Make a normal transparent image with text and save in .PNG for ease and simplicity.

Ah yeah I looked at that one but I must've missed something. I'll give it another try though.

If The text is transparent but the background is showing up, I would assume your alpha channel is opposite of what you need. Change the black to white and the white to black.

When you use the magic wand in pshop -- click on the background. You should have all those little ants marching around your letters (Yay DMB!!!) Go up to the 'Select' portion in your menu and 'Select Inverse' THEN apply your alpha channel. This will reverse the results of the previous post where the back ground is there and the letters are transparent.
