Can I move my avatar without changing the current camera angle?
I am sure lots of people will misread this and try to tell me how to move my camera around or steer my avatar with my mouse, but be sure that I already know how to do all of those things. This is a totally different question...
Imagine if you will, that you have your camera set to the perfect angle and now you want to move your avatar around in front of the camera, maybe even out of view of the camera, but you never want the camera view to change at all. There must be some way of making that happen.
I know that if I have my camera set to a specific angle and another avatar bumps or pushes my avatar, then my avatar's position will change, but the camera will remain fixed. That seems like a pretty inaccurate and inefficient way of accomplishing my desired result.
Any ideas? Torely, you're a camera angle junky... Any thoughts?
Thanks, Bud Goode

Nope. The instant you move, your camera snaps back to the default third-person view.
The only way around this is to use an alt as the "photographer".

There are "TP to camera" teleport HUD's you can buy, but they put your AV's back to the camera (normal position)...
So, you'd at least get the AV to where the camera is...when you turn the AV around, the camera will move, but at least you'd be very close to where you had the camera originally, so you could refine it at that point.

For that matter, there are scripted "multicamera" gadgets that you can purchase, where you can pre-set camera posiions, and swicth at wil between them. I think it leaves an invisible scripted prim at each point... Last time I looked, they were more spendy than I was willing to pay for. I just had an alt sit on a cushion, and used them as my "camera"

Yes, you can - you can take control of the scripted camera with llSetCameraParams, and fix both the camera and focus positions. It then won't care where you move to. You will have to wear the scripted object as an attachment. Put this script into an attachment, as a HUD or other, and touch it to toggle between locked and unlocked camera... integer gFixed = FALSE;
default { state_entry() { llSay(0, "Hello, Avatar!"); }
attach(key id) { if (id != NULL_KEY) { llRequestPermissions(id, PERMISSION_TRACK_CAMERA | PERMISSION_CONTROL_CAMERA); } else { gFixed = FALSE; llSetCameraParams([ CAMERA_ACTIVE, FALSE ]); llSetAlpha(1.0, ALL_SIDES); } }
touch_start(integer total_number) { if (gFixed) { llSetCameraParams([ CAMERA_ACTIVE, FALSE ]); llSetAlpha(1.0, ALL_SIDES); } else { llSetCameraParams([ CAMERA_ACTIVE, TRUE, CAMERA_POSITION, llGetCameraPos(), CAMERA_POSITION_LOCKED, TRUE, CAMERA_FOCUS, llGetPos(), CAMERA_FOCUS_LOCKED, TRUE ]); llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES); } gFixed = !gFixed; } }

I have an attachment somewhere that will lock my camera location
so I move independently of the camera
is that what you mean?
(it was not something I purchased, it was made for me)
basically I would wear said item, then when I get the cam where I want it, I would issue a command to lock it in place
(I used it for taking photos for ads when I wanted precise positioning (before we could change on poseballs)
edited to add that the above post sounds kinda like what I was refering to... but does that script allow you to lock your current cam position, or is that script one where you will put in the info in the script?

Yep as two others have mentioned, you can use "prim cameras" to lock the view. Another method is to use the "Joystick Flycam" option in the Client menu (CTRL+ALT+D to show the menu) and use a USB game controller to control the camera. You can just let it sit there if you don't want it to move. =)
I use an Xbox 360 controller. You have to plug the controller in before you start Second Life, and it's a really good idea to download the Xbox 360 controller software from Microsoft and use the control panel to calibrate your controller, otherwise your camera might slide around when you're not moving the controls.

Details about attachments that help you lock your camera ... if you want them. http://educube.blogspot.com/2008/02/lesson-14-photograph-yourself.html Disclaimer: Yes, it is my blog. No, it is not my gadget. Just trying to save myself typing this over and over is all

From: JamesMichael Morane Wow Wildfire.....how the hell did you discover this?? Ah, old news. I discovered this some time ago, that the XBox360 controllers work with Windows. Would be stupid of MS to not allow that. Also good for friends who say "I cant play PC games cuz I have to use a mouse and keyboard". I use the camera script for my giant sized avatars so you can view them farther out. Otherwise they fill your screen!

Oh wonderful Ordinal! I took out the "CAMERA_FOCUS, llGetPos()," so it wouldn't change rotation and the SetAlphas so I could click it off too... Now it holds position and rotation, then you can even use the camera key controls to pan and rotate, then click it twice to hold that new position as well! Thank you!

From: JamesMichael Morane Wow Wildfire.....how the hell did you discover this?? I've made a few movies for YouTube, and a friend who does machinima told me about it. I had to learn about the calibration stuff the hard way. Was terribly frustrating the first couple of movies having to run and grab my runaway camera every few seconds.
